Re: 82m unasisted WR Freedive

an amazing achievement, very cool. he freedove the arch (a tunnel from the blue hole out to the reef that's 60m deep and 30m long) with no fins a few months ago, that is almost more impressive.

on a related note... martin stepanek announced that he's going for 83m in constant no fins this august, as well as a new record in constant weight at 111m

Amazing, and he looks young, anyone know how old he is? Also is he using any weight at all?

I am thinking that he should be sponsored but who will sponsor him if he doesn't use any equipment.

Re: 82m unasisted WR Freedive

Actually the most amazing part of the whole thing is he is wearing a mask and not a water filled one. Now how the heck does he equalize hands free?

Re: 82m unasisted WR Freedive

I heard that some guys can equalize hands free. I tried many times but can't do it. I think it's genetic but in case it isn't that's one thing I'd love to learn how to do.

Terry Maas makes a custom mask with protrusions for the nostrils that allow him to do the same thing. Making a mask like that has been on my list of things to do for 6 years.

Re: 82m unasisted WR Freedive

I don't know why but I have always been able to equalize hands-free, I think that lots of people can do it and I'm sure that at least one of my dive buddies uses it regularly.

I don't know if it's genetic or a learned thing but here's a good thread from deeperblue.net that tries to explain how it's done:

I've been wanting to try a nose clip under the mask.
