Went out all weekend in destin and did some spearing. This is a pic of the biggest snapper of the weekend. I know its not big compared to others but its my biggest so far. Question about sharks... We did 7 dives and we had to beat the bull sharks off of the fish on more than one occassion. Is this always common with spearfishing? ( I have been spearing a total of about 15 times and almost half of the time I have a close encouter or brushing by bull sharks. I have hunted a lot of things and this was the first time I felt hunted. I will be buying a powerhead before the next trip. on one of the spots we fished for a min after diving and landed a 8 foot bull shark. needless to say he wasn't happy when I got a hold of him.

Nice Snapper, better than any one I've speared to date. I know I'm asking for it when I say this but, I still haven't had to deal with any sharks this year. I' m averaging 4 dives a weekend since april and spearing on every dive. I know they are around as all the other boats that go out around here have reported encounters. Just lucky so far I guess.

I 'm not scared of much but that one on friday scared the hell out of me. I wish I had a powerhead. He was so close to me I wasn't able to get the line off my 52'ss to shot him with a free shaft. I had to poke him off all the way to the surface but I never gave that bastard my fish.

Hardcore ........ poking that shark all the way to the surface to save your fish. We have caught more sharks this year than I can ever remember. We catch them ever trip when we use big slab baits on the bottom for grouper... especially to the west...it is shark city !!! I am going free diving this week I hope, to try out my new gun... I am a little worried because we usually chum heavy then slip over the side and see what shows up... I dont want to see any sharks. Nice snapper you got there, I will try and match it, snappers show up in the chum a lot, sometimes right to the surface.
