So I'm still a noob with this whole spearfishing/diving gig. I get the gist that red tide=bad, but why? any more details? Will you get a stingy, itchy rash if you swim through it? does it kill fish? will it poison any fish that you spear?

Any more details would be nice...is the general consensus to stay far far away?

i read that....but it's not informative. So are you saying that red tide killed the seals?

Not only that, but if it gets close to shore, ya can't see a damn thing.

I used to love surfing in red tide cause when you shacked up in the barrel, it got all dark. Good times.

There was a huge section of ride tide off Oceanside that seems to have disappeared:thumps:

YES! I remember seeing that.

Now if we could only keep these stupid little storms from blowing in..... :thumps:

red tide starting to show along LB harbor this morning....it won't hurt you to dive in it..I actually like red tide for diving halibut and rpv...it provides good cover for hunting under, as it usually only goes down about half way to the bottom...it also compresses the bait and gamefish on the bottom, making it easier to hunt...probably won't hurt you if you don't swallow much of it while spitting out your snorkel...never had a problem with rash from swimming in it...have taken some nice halibut by swimming with my back just in the bottom of the horizontal layer for cover...
