We are going out to Freeport, TX to dive the Captain Waldo's spearfishing tournament 23-25 July. (Armor is sponsoring yet another spearfishing tournament-5 this year so far).

Can anyone tell us what kind of diving to expect and what equipment is required/recommended? any other suggestions on how to prep for this diving.

If you're interested in the tournament the web site is www.captainwaldos.com and we are driving out leaving Wed the 21st and coming back on Monday the 26th.

Went the other weekend on the wango tango out of galveston. Check out the my earlier thread and some of the helldivers had a great trip out of there also. Did all rig diving but they do dive wrecks over there. Lots of big fish over there. Don't really have to fight current and much murk like places closer to the Delta. I would line rig your gun with cable (3/32" cable) and if you can setup a riding rig, on any dive you will be probably running your line through obstuctions like rig legs. Ask Rockbottom to explain his setup and he has some great pics showing how to rig also. Good luck and post results.

Thanks for the answer. I expected to get more replies. I've contacted Rock Bottom by PM. We aren't hanging out there as much as I may have sounded; one of the shops sponsoring the tournament has taken us underwing and will help us gear up. I just want to know all I can before I leave home.
