Great day on the bay, probably 10-12 ft vis at high tide (unheard of!!) and pretty mellow tides. Besides a mess of fish, saw a free swimming wolf eel, also a first for me. The ling was 26" and couple of the rockfish went 17 and 18 inches. We're eating good this week....

Congrats on filling the freezer for a while!
Hillsboro, eh? My sister's family lives out west of there in Timber. I've been wondering about the dive/spearing possibilities in Tillamook. My bro-in-law drops crab pots in there and does pretty well. Been thinking I need to just go give it a try. Any general advice, maybe at least where NOT to worry about trying in the bay? Best tides for decent vis?
Thanks in advance for any tips.

Codzilla - Way to kill'em! Glad you had decent vis - a rare thing on our coast. Nice ling, and a limit of rocks - looks like you had a great hunt and good memories!

Hey Cod I take that you were diving the North Jetty? I saw a small inflatable when coming bvack in from Cape Lookout Around 5pm. I nailed 4 blacks and a 23" ling and missed another at the Cape. Could have limited on blacks but was always waiting for the bigger one lol. Had 15'-20' viz at the Cape unless you were in the krill then it dropped to around 5' lol. It was a great day to be on/in the water. (I was in a 18' Avon RIB, grey tubes orange hull).

That's always the dilemma, isn't it? Do I shoot, or do I wait? Been there, done that, just have to guess and laugh at yourself if you guess wrong - but once in a while, it is a good decision to wait. You win some and lose some. Makes hunting exciting because it is so unpredictable.
