I shot my first big fish 3 weeks ago. He was at 98 feet at the ewing banks 42 miles south of grand isle. i have been diving for 8 years, but this is my first year spearing. i shot the fish on scuba and he wound up weighing 35 pounds. to say the least, i was stoked. this was my 4th time spearing, and my first big fish. cant wait to get back and take another ride!

i shot the next at 122 feet and he came in at 33 pounds. i gave him to a non spearfishing friend on the boat. until now, i had only shot trigger fish. what a difference! to say the least, i am hooked on spearing. big c.

patmygreen, you are more right than you know. there is no going back. what i mean is, we were supposed to go out this weekend, the river is going down,(better water, more clear), the charter is booked, tanks filled , ready to go for 07/24!
BUT,
I got a cold last weekend and my sinuses still aren't clear. i just cancelled my spot. the forecast is great, and i am going to miss out. my friends suggested medicine, but i am unwilling to take a chance. so for right now, i am not going back:( . maybe next weekend.

fishsticker, it is a 30 foot cuddy cabin? with 2 v-8's. runs about 30 mph and is run by my friend Julio. that's him with the bandgaded finger. great big fantail on that boat with alot of storage in the front for tanks.

:D WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF SPEARFISHING, AND TO CONGRADULATE YOU ON YOUR CATCH.
IF YOUR WIFE WASNT CRAZZY ABOUT THE DIVING, SHE WILL FREAK OUT ABOUT THE NEW ADDICTION YOU HAVE NOW! MINE DID! SHE SAYS IF I SPENT AS MUCH TIME WITH HER AS I DO DIVEING AND SPEAR FISHING, IT WOULD BE A HUNNY MOON 24-7. GLAD I GOT A TRIP PLANED FOR SATURDAY!
I JUST WISH I COULD MORE THAN I DO. I HAVE GIVEN UP ALL FORMS OF HUNTING SINCE I STARTED SPEARRING. IT'S THE ONLY HOBBY I HAVE NOW. MY OLDEST SON IS GOING TO GET HIS CERT. SOON. DON'T NEED TO SAY HOW THE BETTER HALF FEELS BOUT THAT. MORE FISH TO CLEAN ON THE WEEK ENDS!
easy on the caps Rigreeper
and NICE fish BigC!

you were right rig. i also like the local guys. they at least have an idea as to what kind of diving we are doing. the other site has alot of guys claiming to be better than the scuba guys because freediving, in their opinion, is the only way to spear fish. i think that it's funny that they keep posting these tiny fish and ripping the rest of us who are shooting real fish. to say the least, this site has better divers and people who know what the heck they are talking about. are you going out this weekend. except for the rain, there is a good offshore forecast and the river is going down.

yes, the other site was not very welcoming to say the least. if you did not share their views, you were pounced upon. then they would brag about the little fish they shot. what a joke. glad i converted to this site. the locals know what it is like out on the rigs. the other site had alot of guys diving in 40 foot lakes and clear carribean waters. there is a difference when you have to hanng onto a rig leg for 80 feet before the water clears. but enough of that, i am glad to find a site that accepts what we do, and that is put on a tank and go get some real fish! we are going out the weekend of 07/31 if you want to follow us grump, give me a call. big c
