Any suggestions for a good Kayak seat? I want to spend as little as possible and get the most bang for my buck. The seat will be going in an Aquaterra Prism and I will only be freediving with it.
Thanks.

As I have learned, a good seat can cost a few $$$$$. Because of my weight and belly, it becomes more of a strain to stay seated forward. It is a lot of strain on the back muscles. So, I went through several seats to find the one that would be the best....and stilll not break the bank. This seat is what I found. It has 2 straps in the front, which hold the upper section and the lower section. In the back are 2 more straps to keep the seat on place. The seat rides high on the back for ultimate support. With this seat, I do not have any more back issue in the kayak and now I can paddle for hours if needed. But the only drawback is that it is not inexpensive. If you search the internet and the rest of Ebay, you might be able to find a better deal. They retail for almost $200 from most kayak stores. :thumps::beer::beer:

Thanks Bryan.
Looks like a great seat. Since I only paid $200 for the Kayak with a Werner paddle maybe I should go ahead and throw down the cash for one of these seats. Back pain is one of the few things that can trump spearfishing fun.
Thanks for the input.

I have that seat and a few others. Truthfully, you're not sitting in the seat all day, since you're in the water diving. I'd almost not like the tall back since in gets in the way a little when I turn around to access my gear in the tankwell. A short seat suits me just as well and lots of the time I don't even bring a seat at all.
If I am fishing a long day, my bottom hurts anyways, so I bring an extra pad for my butt.
The storage bag that attaches on the back is very nice to have... convieient storage at your fingertips. The little rod holders kinda useless, I keep a stringer in there, stuff trash i find in there. I guess a flag pole could go in there. Water Holder bottles would be better.
Overall, it's a good seat and thats a great price. Plus, it looks like a Porsche. But if you found a well made one with storage pouch for $45, that should be fine too.

Bluesquid;
Thanks for the invite. I want to try it myself a couple of times to get the hang of it and then I'll drop you a PM. Good word on the seat. It does seem easy to just turn around without the seat and so far my back hasn't been hurting. Like you said, I'm really not going that far.
Thanks for your input.

In my kayak, I am not really going that far to whatever location to dive. But with the the weight belt, and using my back muscles to hold me forward, it becomes a strain on my back real fast. Especially after diving for 2 or 3 hours or more. I don't like pain or discomfort, so when I can make my life a little easier and less painful, with just a little extra cost, then I can enjoy my activities that much more. I have already spent the money, time and effort to find what is the best option. I only hope that by sharing my experience, it can save others that time, money and headache I went through. Your can spend the money on a seat once and be perfectly satisfied........or your can go through what I went through and kick yourself later.
I will mention that there are those who can use a kayak without a seat or even the simplest of seats and have not issues at all. I am not one of those people. Whatever you decide, best of luck. :thumps::beer::beer:

Thanks for the input Diablo. Since I do have a bad back I probably will end up taking your advice. However, since I don't have an extra $90 this month, I think I am going to try touching the stove just to see if its hot...just a little touch.
Thanks again.

I was just looking at some seats on ebay, some of the cheapo ones have kind floppy backs. some only have two brass clips not four.
This one looks pretty good.

It's the same company that makes that GTS knockoff for $89...boatstogo.com
Looks stiff(good support), just less padding and not as cool looking.

Thanks for the input of the seat. I just ordered the $35 seat. Way better price than $188 for the super deluxe. I'll let you guys know how it works out.
Thanks again.
