View Full Version : Not enough room to store a yak? Interesting option....

Saw this and thought I would pass along the information.

I own a scupper pro and live in a high rise downtown Miami. Fortunately I have been lucky in that my building has so far not given me a hard time about storing a 15' long kayak in the parking garage, but that is probably about to change. I was looking at gear and saw this "point 65 tequila" kayak and thought it was an interesting idea. Not only would it be easier to stow due to the length of the pieces, but they also sell a mid section that easily converts it from a single to a tandem....

Anyone have any idea how secure / stable / rigid these are?

whoa, that is pretty awesome...i am sure it adds quite a bit of weight, but it seems like a badass idea. esp for travelling, I am reluctant to drive further than the keys with my yak on the roof just because of the gas mileage, but this is a backseat item.

and the ability to add or remove that section is brilliant.

as for performance, sea kayaks and those that are stable enough for our needs are really poor performing kayaks by most paddlers standards, but the fast one would suck for us. I suspect that this would fair fine for a shore diving platform as long as the connection fittings are secure.

thanks for sharing.

Hence my scupper pro - fast and stable with tons of storage... I owe Hau for leading me to the dark side, lol...

This just looked like a decent option. You brought up weight.. I hadn't even thought about that, but I can see where it might be a concern.

Moving Target---why u gotta blame the old man
Life is all about choices:
1. Keep the scupper pro---move to a different condo
2. Keep the scupper pro---buy a scupper pro hauler
3. Keep the scupper pro---find a GF that lives on the beach

But seriously, looks like a real option for you. Maybe try to find one and do a sea trial first to see if it fits into your life.
Nice find. Thanks for shareing

I like option #3!

Hell or high water my preference is to keep the scupper! Hopefully high water comes first so I can use it for a getaway!

Do you have a balcony? Rig a haul rope off the railing and pull the scupper on up. Shoot, leave it hanging off the balcony and cover it with fake vines/flowers or something. If the landlord fusses, tell him it's insurance against the pending tsunami and he should provide them for all the tennants...
