A buddy of mine went out fishing in 90' today. He said he could see 20' plus down, so I am optimistic.

we were going to go out in my friends 24 Stamas, but it's running hot so we will be going out in my 19'er. Needless to say we wont be going out as far as we would have in his. We will be in about 30 to 40' so hopefully the viz doesn't suck!! Thanx for the info!!!

we went out to Clearwater Reef (31') and the weather was awesome but the viz was only about 12/15'. Didn't see any grouper but there were lots of mango's. They were VERY skiddish. I lost two HUGE ones off my spear...DAMNIT!!!! Ended up with three nice hogs and my dive buddy managed to rustle up a nice bug>4 3/4" carapace. We caught a few small grouper in 40' on a ledge and several big grunts. The bug was definitely the catch of the day!! He didn't go without a fight:D Hope to see more grouper next time. Capt. Jay is Bayport near St.Pete? I've heard it mentioned several times but and was wondering where it was. It was damn great to get out!!!!!!!

Dlock,, bayport is about 20 miles north of Tarpon Springs.. and once you get north of tarpon springs you wont see many Red grouper.. I dont know why, but almost every grouper I catch is Gag's... Capt. Jay

hey Dave >>I have a family reunion on Oct.26 @ MacRaes.Homosassa is such a beautiful place. My dad grew up there and my cousin (Capt.Mike Locklear) is a third generation fishin' guide there. We used to go up there quite a bit when I was a kid. Lots of great memories there of my dad and fishin'. Man that place has changed thru the years, but parts of it are just as they were back then.

I was out Saturday and Sunday and the vis was not too shabby, at least 15 feet at 65 ft deep. Started seeing some gags of size where I had only seen little ones all summer. I hope that means that the water is going to cool of quick this year! Temp was down another degree to 83. Also, the Kings were skyrocketing all over the place from about 2 miles off of Clearwater Beach to 20 miles out so you might want to throw some troling gear on for a slow ride back to the marina/launch.
