I have been planning a trip to visit my dad in Spain, but it just got cancelled. On the positive side, I have a hookup where I can fly free to most Central America

So does anyone have any experience spearfishing down there? Although I do scuba often, it is my understanding that it is illegal to use tanks down there to shoot fish. True? Either way, I can freedive to 40 feet, so that is probably the best bet. Besides, I will save a ton of money if I hunt from the shore instead of having to charter a boat to find the fish.
I speak spanish and am a very experienced traveler. I've only been to Costa Rica and Mexico so far, but with family. If anyone is interested in joining in, let me know. Any information and/or contacts would be very appreciated.
