Just thoght some of you would be interested in the small modificatipn that I had done to my shaft. The ring not only stops the slide ring from jamming, but when loading the gun since the ring is only on the top half you can feel when you are inserting the shaft upside down. My only concern may be possible weakening due to the heat of welding. So far no apparent weakness.

Welding will not "weaken" the shaft, but it will harden it and make it more prone to snapping near the stop location. The trick to hot work of 17-4 is to be FAST bot in the application of heat and in the following cooling process to keep it from getting too brittle.
I like 17-4 tips to be a bit brittle, so they can be snapped off if deeply imbedded into a rig or wreck because of a missed shot, or by me stupidly not paying attention to the background. This allows me to at least recover the shaft.
