Go through Appalachicola on 98 about 8 to 10 miles out, you will see a sign that says 30 scenic alternate on your left, fork left there. The signs will say Indian Pass and Cape San Blas. Go until you see the Raw Bar (about 10 miles) on your right. Look for the sign that says Indian Pass with an arrow to the left. Take this road without turning of the main road all the way to the ramp.

The sand bar extends out from St Vincents Island which is straight across from the boat ramp at Indian Pass. As you head out into the gulf just run parallel along the beach until you get to the pilings of two old broken down piers before making your turn out. You will see the breakers from the sand bar as you run down the beach. When the tide is in you may be able turn out before you get to the old pilings but they are the best reference point to use.

Try to time your launch and load with a slack tide. The current there can be unreal.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Guys! Danny and I are planning a trip there this weekend but I'm not so sure with all this crazy shit going on in the Gulf as far as weather goes.

The pass has shifted and filled in at the pilings. Go down the beach until you see a small house with a blue metal roof. It will be before the pilings. Watch where the waves are breaking on the shoals. The cut will only be about four feet deep. If the weather lays down I'll see you out there.
I'll be on channel 73.

Kmoose..

My buddy was just there and he posted his observations of the area. Maybe this will help you some.

I'd been wanting to put in here to more easily reach our trolling spots near the Swanson. I'd been fishing here once before about 8 years ago in my bass boat, it's not a good place for bass boats. Decided to try it again yesterday in the bay boat. The current still rips on the falling tide, visibility about 6 inches. I'd been told in the past to run down the beach until you reach the old pilings and then turn south. Perhaps Bonnie remodled the area to her liking because there is now a large exposed sand bar that extends out from the beach south before you ever reach the pilings. Opposite this sand bar is the very shallow reef that extends SW from St Vincent island. The current preferentially pushes you across this reef rather than out into the deeper water. Between the two is a gap, maybe 75 yards wide. Maximum depth was 4.5 feet at high tide (avg tide swing about 1.5 ft). So I guess it's doable if you stay on plane and know exactly where you're going, but don't count on being able to see any under water obstructions. There were some pretty big boats kept on trailers at the camp ground there, I assume they must launch there without any trouble. However, they looked like they had minimal deadrise, so maybe they don't draft much. Getting the boat back on the trailer was interesting. When I held position in the current in front of the ramp I was almost on plane. Don't think I'm going to try bringing "Sawbones" down here until I get a few more scratches on her. Just wanted to share a little reconnaisance data with the group.

Head South from the house with the big blue roof. Grain of salt-That was the spot before Bonnie.

Man this sounds awful tricky but the Rocket does't draft much water so hopefully I can make it past the reef ok. If there is a better ramp ..................you know, one with markers and a known chanel that does,nt change from week to week. If there isn't this place must be crawling with fish for lack of getting any boats out to do some damage.

That is the only ramp I know of giving close access to the area. Presnell's is too far West and in the wrong body of water. There is sure to be several spots in Appalach, meaning a longer boat trip depending on where you want to go.
From what I've seen, I'd be more worried about the current when its time to trailer the boat than getting out past the bar. Use good old fashion common sense. If small waves are breaking it is too shallow. Find a spot in that line parallel to shore where they seem to build a little but not break.

Make sure you mark the cut on you way out. It's hard to spot when your coming in. We fish out of there 3 or 4 times a month and it still makes me nervous every time.
I've got a 25 aquasport and i get through fine.
The next closest landing for a larger boat is under the bridge in apalach or mexico beach.

There's tons of live bottom about four miles west of the Mica in about 130' to 150'.

I'd be glad to send you a copy. If you go ahead an email me your numbers I'll even type them in for you first.;)

Actually the bluechart unlock codes are GPS serial number specific. I could send you a copy, but it'd do you no good.

We can talk trades for your spring hole number though;)
