We have been making these up for customers recently at Florida Freedivers as an affordable, portable lionfish tool with great feedback. We can set one up for you, or maybe this will inspire some home-made set ups. It is a JBL mini carbine with a 3-prong tip with the barbs ground off. We shortened the line to a single wrap (or freeshaft if preferred). And we have been lengthening the band for those who have trouble loading the stout stock band. Adding a couple inches makes loading easy and still has plenty of power for close-range shots on soft lionfish. It fits nicely in this pole spear bag to carry on scuba. I know there are other nice options out there, but I think the more options the better, to suit different diving styles. This is a nice option for those who do not want to handle these bastards up close and personal. We are selling them for $72 without the bag and $85 with it. the whole package is about 23" and the bag is about 25". If interested call the shop or come by. 561-848-0678.

i like to have a tournament and every shooter would have to use that gun.

That would would be awsome...I bet some big stuff would be landed too. Then it would start an argument on here about the ethics of shooting too small of legal fish or shooting big fish with too small a gun or using a scooter or lift bag or some crap. I'd compete and try to land a big cobia off a bull shark:thumps:

I learned a lot about lionfish handling from Randy on the Emerald last week. He makes another cool lion banger, but it requires you to get a little more up close to the lionfish. He has killed almost 100 this year and knows how to handle them. Just using basic rubber-dipped gloves he grabs them by the face and crushes the brain. Then snips off the spines with his knife. They are really soft. Check out this video on his thread:
