Went out lobster diving for the first time this season... Conditions were great, small swell, relatively warm water, and decent vis. We saw lots of short lobsters and after releasing 10+ that were millimeters to short our hopes were dwindling. Thats when I saw my brothers light pick up a monster on his turn back up to the surface... I dove down as fast as I could and pushed myself into the hole he was sitting in.. He just sat there and looked at me, I slowly brought my hands around him and with both hands grabbed his side. He curled up, cutting and crunching my thumb, but I wasnt about to let go I wiggled myself out of the hole and after 10 min of trying to get him in the bag, we had our first lobster! My brother kept diving and said he saw another one a few pounds larger than this one but wasnt able to reach him.. All in all it was a great night!

We also had some guys point out 8 odd looking lights in the sky that we definitely would have to classify as UFO's. Dont know if any of you saw them on the coast saw them last night, but they were definitely strange. They were about he size of stars, changed colors rapidly, and were moving back and forth. Over about 15 min they went slightly to the east, as they got smaller and then eventually came west again and then disappeared!?

I also was curious if there was anyway to preserve the shell, like a mount. I know people have posted info on molts but wasnt sure about a whole one... Thanks

Beautiful bug! Looks like a monster. I don't know where you were diving but there is a refueling track over / near Catalina.

It takes a lot of work, I tried it once. Basic steps are: separate lobster into pieces, get rid of all the meat/guts, position lobster the way you want, let it dry/harden, put lobster back together with glue and foam. If you're feeling lazy you could inject/soak chemicals into the meat instead of removing the meat. Eventually you'll need to repaint the lobster because the color will fade to white.

PS: where were you diving when you saw the lights ;) I'm not asking your for your 'spot' however I need to know EXACTLY where you were in order to pinpoint what those lights could have been :p Also how deep of water were you in... wthat would also help with the lights hahaha
