Well, I think I am the only guy that DID NOT go 100 miles from shore yesterday (hell its a little hard for me to get a three day hall pass from the wife type for these MG trips). Myself and Rusty left the Ft. Desoto ramp at around 7:15 yesterday, heading for a spot in about 90'. First dive was a ledge, and I am happy to report that the rumors of crappy vis are UNTRUE. We had a solid 15 to 20'. On the down side, not too fishy. Water temp is still real high at 84 degrees. I shot two hogs on this spot, one being about 6 #'s.

Next spot was some cheese bottom about 3 miles away. Not much there, but I did shoot a 26" red grouper. Dove half the tank here, then moved to another area about a mile away and finished the tank. I saw two big gags head for the hole on this spot. Nothing else there to shoot at, so I got behind the hole and waited. Sure enough, in a couple of minutes one of the gags poked his head out and I plugged him. 24" gag.

The last spot was one I had been to before, and done well, but not today. A rocky area in 85', I only managed a couple of Mango's. I think they were the only two mangos there.

All in all, not too bad, I got some nice fish and I also got out of the house. We might have to wait another week or two for the first cold front to get the big push of grouper in closer though.

Anyone up for a mid to late week trip out of clearwater, Tarpon Springs, or Port Richey? I hear the grouper are a little thicker up there and I am not too busy this week.
