My son and I were invited to dive the rigs out of southwest La. made it to the rigs in 135ft. Blue water, clean and clear, went down lots of life but not the big fish we were hoped for. This was my sons first rig dive so we stuck close together. As getting the hang of shooting in the rigs takes a little getting used to. Dave shot and strung some nice triggerfish, as I stayed close and looked for snapper, found only mangos and shot a couple. The next dive we made gave up some real nice mangos but no reds. I had told my son no fish was worth dying for, never push the past what was safe, so when I checked with himI had 650psi left signaled time to go up, here comes a cobia of 45-50 lbs, I dropped down from 70 to 85ft and lined up. Thinking what I was fixen to do in front of the son, I wasn't doing what I was preaching. I stopped and headed up with some nice snapper, I been thinking about that lemon ever since. Ended the day with 6 mangs 6-12.5lbs each and several nice triggers. wonderful day of diving with my son and good friends.

Awesome report Don! Way to set an example! You did the right thing and dont worry the ocean will still be there along with that cobia...you will get yours! :)

Nice report. Good judgement. No fish is worth your life.

Don: Sorry that that cobia didn't come along a little earlier. Who knows, maybe having your son there actually might have saved your life. That call was mighty close to the line. In any event, you certainly set a good example.

Glad that you and Dave finally got to shoot some fish after so many trips went bad. Sure beats the hell out of 10 hours of pounding through 6-8 foots seas like we did a few weeks back.
