Tips to keep your gun negative?

did the research and it would cost about 3k to have my gun dipped in gold. Does anyone have the best way to make your gun negatively buoyant? Can you pour hot lead in the handle w/o melting the plastic? What about filling the handle with lead shot, what's the best way to seal it?

Buy a tube of silicon caulk (clear) and some lead shot. Put about one lb. of lead sot in a baggy and zip tie it to the handle of the gun. get in the water and adjust the amount of lead needed to acheive desired bouancy.

Place the lead in a cup and mix in the silicon to create a thick lead slurry. Pack the slurry into the handle and place in a warm place for a couple days to allow the silicon to harden. Handle upright.

Tip: spray a little silicon spray into the handle first if you want to easily remove the plug later!

After the slurry dries, drill a small dia. hole (3/32") and place a cross pin into the handle & through the lead. Make sure the pin is not protruding out of either side of the handle.This will keep the leadin the handle and still allow you to push the pin out and remove the lead if necessary.

Hot lead will work, but it is very dangerous and likely to damage the plastic if not done properly.

I still recommend that you shoulder your gun and keep the lead aroung your waist! Ha. Bad habits are hard to break huh.

a friend of mine got his Sea Hornet used (it has the gold colored plastic handle/muzzle instead of the black,not sure how old it is) instead and it already had the handle filled w/lead...works great.

Those SeaHornets with the gold components were made in he late 1960's. They went black in the early 70's.

cool! It was pretty beat up and my buddy used a little sandpaper,spar varnish and a new spear and it looks brand new...great gun, I believe it's a 52" or somewhere close to that.

My SS Rhino witha a extra shaft does not float even with my shaft distcharged? what size gun are you using?

Without either shaft, the gun floats.

I have a 54" Rhino.

Hard habits. I finally broke my glue sniffing habit and it only took 30 yrs. I'm still working on my crack habit. I've tried different belts, but none seem to help. I've got a meeting with Plumbers Anonymous on Wed.

I think I'll do the lead trick in the handle to be safe.
