Not a thing wrong with them AT ALL that I have seen. These are well maintained and not abused. ICEMAN prefers to, and is able to keep fresh motors. I would not hesitate for a minute to install these on my boat, if I had another one. The price is right on these pristine units, If you need motors you should check these out. :)

We are installing 2003 OptiMax on the boat.I keeping the props and the controls for the new engine. The wire harness going with
the 1999 because the wire harness for the 2003 has changed.
The OptiMax are on a 28' baja.We average1.9 MPG.The first set of engine on the boat where 1996 200Hp mercury's with
carburetor.MPG 1.3 The fuel economy improved 50% with the
OptiMax.I'aim a firm believer in mercury's OptiMax engine.

I have heard that the 99 optis have had problems. Why are you getting rid of them? Are you going to larger 03 Optis? Or are these 99 Optis part of the production run that Merc has been replacing or repairing? Is the factory giving you a deal on the new 03s due to warranty complaints?

Webers i hope you not talking about the ficht engine made by
Johnson. We have had very few problems with the OptiMax.
In the first 6 Mt.we run the engine there was a injector problem.
Mercury replaced the power heads with 2000 heads and we
had no other problems. For the first 24 years of my boating I
used Johnson engine. We had normal problems like lower units, power heads, stator, coils and powerpack's.For the pass
7 year's of running Merc's my up time went to almost 100%.
7 year's of spearfishing tournament's and we made it to the
scale on time every time.We transported fish for competitor on
many occasion's.Yamaha's Suzuki's and Johson's but never for
a OptiMax powered boat.
Webers my new engine will be a set of 200 Optis.I hope your
experience with Optis will be as pleasant as ours if you ever
buy a pair.Webers let us know what's on your boat and how much uptime you have with your engine. One more thing I like
to say "The Optis are Made in America"

Webers. ICEMAN is an honorable guy that can afford new motors. These are the best $10,500 motors I have ever seen.
I rest my case, your honor.

Didn't mean to imply ICEMAN wasn't honorable. I've read lots of bitching about optis, ficht, and Yammi motors on thehulltruth.com and FS forum on boating. Everyone's got thier own thing to bitch about. Personally, after a bad expiernece and just gettign rid of my boat I HATE MERCRUSERS W/ BRAVO IIIs (but have no expierence with the Optis). I ask because I've got a bud that is considering repowering a Hydrasport, and the "which HPDI brand has the most bugs" question is a topic of discussion when we dive. 200's or 225s might work for him.
ICEMAN: Why are you replacing them with new 200 Optis? Have there been changes since you bought them, like more torque or fuel economy? Could the 200's push a 7500 lb CC boat well enought to cruise at 40?

Webers.My Boat is a 28CC with brackets.30"oa.The Boat fully
loaded 200Gal gas,8 tanks,compressor,dive gear,and 3 diver's
7400-7800lb.Top speed mid 50 cruising at 4200rpm mid 30.If the
dry weight on your buddy's boat is 7500 lb you need 250's to
cruise in the low 40.
