Does anyone have a suggestion to where I can purchase a decent aluminum barrel for a hybrid gun. Your advice and opinions are welcomed. Thank you in advance.

Kevin, Florida Freedivers sells aluminum and carbon barrels by a few different manufacturers. Nice folks to deal with too.

The AL tubing used as the handle of most pool skimmers is the same size and alloy as what used to be used on JBL tube guns.

Really? I never would have guessed that. I bet that stuff is inexpensive too.

Used to be about $15 for the skimmer, has enough handle to make several guns. The residual short handle net makes a good canal trash pickup tool.

Is it strong enough? That's interesting. Thanks

Seems to do fine until you get more than 4 5/8" bands on it, or wrap the tube around a rig leg. That was the standard rig gun material for over a decade. Buy a JBL, swap the tube out to maximize the pull length possible with the maximum standard shafts, then beef up the bands and add a notch until it would drive the shaft through 18" of fish skull, or embed the point 3/4" into the steel rig leg. We made our own tube sealing plugs with O-ring seals to keep the bore dry and make the gun a floater.

Kevin, if you haven't picked up wood yet, check out Clyde Lumber in West Warwick. I went there when I built my last couple of guns. They had a better selection of wood, and better quality than WoodCraft, in my opinion.

Wow that's good to know. Thanks, I have been working with solid Padauk, I really like the color and it seems easy to work with. I am a novice at wood working, I find it relaxing and fun. You have to pay attention to it though, I made some really dumb mistakes like turning the piece around and cutting the handle recess on the same side of the top of the trigger,,,,,ugh! I have enough extra wood now to make some underwater hockey sticks.
I bought my barrel a 140 from Mako along with a muzzle and plugs. Brad and Josh were excellent. I appreciate all the good advice and direction guys, a sincere thankyou.
We get a little rowdy in the NE forum, so it's refreshing to come here and learn from you guys, thanks.
