I did a lot of research about ways to prevent fogging on your mask and I came accross the lighter one which makes plenty of sense. The only question I have is are you supposed to do it on both the out and inside? How to you keep from melting the plastic around the glass? I just bought a Mystic Sporasub mask

Inside and you'll be fine! Don't worry to much about the silicon you won't melt it unless you leave it there for a good while directly.

Johnson's no tears baby shampoo. put some in a small bucket of water dip your mask in and your set, or just wipe some in the mask and rinse it out.

hmm... sounds plausible. have any data/ other info?
The lighter does not prevent fogging, it will burn the layer or silicone that is on the glass, yes you should do both sides, it will turn the less black then you can wash the black off.
The other option is to scrub with toothpaste, more work same result.
Either way you still need to defog before getting in the water, spit works great, but defog will not keep the mask from fogging with the silicone layer on the new lens.

I wouldn't use toothpaste just flame it, silicon is just about fire proof.

Once you do the lighter trick, you will not go back to toothpaste. It works incredibly well so quickly.

The lighter trick only removes the silicone residue you still need to spit/use baby shampoo or defogger. Just bought a new mask and I had done the lighter trick (and the toothpaste) to my old mask and it worked great did it to this one and it didn't fog once all day.

Just give it a quick rinse with soap or something as there is still some residue from the lighter trick. I did it to my most recent mask (2.5 weeks ago) and my first rinse was in seawater and it hasn't fogged since. I spat in it the first time I dove, but you'll find that you won't need to spit in it anymore once it is clean. The first time I did it, I was pretty timid with the lighter, which is a mistake. Make sure that you really get it good with the lighter so there is as little left of the stuff as possible, but keep the mask cool. You might have to do it once more to be sure there isn't any residue on the lens. Don't worry too much, hundreds of people have done this (if not more).
Hell, soak it in Coke. Hector has tried it and I believe him.
Baby shampoo is the way to go if you ask me

Guy have some patience....after all you've done to the mask its going to work. Just remember to spit in your mask before it gets wet and everything will be ok. You sitting in your livingroom chair isnt the same as being in the water. For starters the air that you are exhaling into the mask is hot and full of moisture which is causing it to fog up more than if you were in the water. Patience Patience Patience!

Stupid question, why does it come coated with silicone to begin with? Is it to prevent scratching in transit?
Not that clever...
