Dear Spearos,

In a few days, MAKO SPEARGUNS will have available the Flat Lenses for the Go Pro Camera Housings.

For only $16.95, you can transform your Go Pro Camera into a professional underwater camera. The Go Pro underwater camera housing is an awesome product. However, because it has a convex lens, the video is dramatically distorted when used underwater. The “MAKO Flat Go Pro Housing Lens” eliminates that problem and makes your underwater videos as sharp and crisp as a professional underwater video camera.

We are pleased to offer this product for two reasons. Number one, it is a great product that transforms your Go Pro into a professional grade underwater camera. Additionally, these flat lenses are supplied to us by a fellow spearo by the name of Peter who works in the plastics fabrication industry. Peter was on a road trip and stopped by our showroom to pick up some gear on his way to Cape Hatteras for some spearing. It was pretty late so I invited Peter to stay the night at my house. After dinner, Peter began telling me what he did and I was amazed with his knowledge of various manufacturing techniques. In addition to these flat lenses,

Peter is working on some other projects with us and we look forward to working with him in the future. Thanks Peter!

Yes, It works good and the video is very clear. You will barely see the corners of the housing when using this lens but its not a problem.

Does the original housing lens just pop out or is there modification necessary?

it should be as easy as unscrewing the black base-ring and switching out the lens for the new one.

this is correct, just be careful with removing and setting the screws in, plastic strips easily.
I would also recommend putting some silicon grease around the seal for extra protection from water intrusion.

Did you guys invent this lens? I have a been using the Go-Pro for a couple of years now and that seems like a pretty cool idea.

Hey Red Tide,

We did not invent the lens. I think a German company started making them a few years ago and now there are several companies that make them.

Our lenses are made by one of my customers, who is highly skilled in the plastics fabrication industry.

As you can see by our pricing, it is not my intent to profit much on these lenses.

It is my hopes that by offering these lenses at such an affordable price, it will increase traffic to my site and help out a fellow spearo at the same time.

Dive safe,
dano

I took the Go Pro and Mako lens to over 175 feet a few weeks ago. No problems. The improvement in focus is very noticable, especially for objects that are within a few feet of the camera. This weekend, I tried out the new MAKO removable camera mount and was happy with that as well.

The mount should work on an aimrite barrel, I believe. It has some adjustability to the clamp which goes around the circular barrel.

I'm interested in buying this but I use my camera for several activities above water also. Will this decrease quality at all? Might be a noob question but I am unsure.

Sorry for the very late response. The flat lens will not decrease the quality when shooting out of the water to any noticable degree and the improvement in underwater performance makes it a no brainer to upgrade the housing..
