Relative Newbie...Destin, FL

Hola fellow kayak divers! :toast:

Just wanted to stop in and say hi, I'm looking forward to a summer full of kayak dives in Destin, FL. I've only tried it once 6 months ago (vid here YouTube - ‪GoPro Kayak Spearfishing Dive #1‬‏), so I'm hoping to get some good info and tips from this board. I apologize for the poor quality of the video, it was my first and I was getting used to the camera. I use an Ocean Kayak Frenzy 9 foot, which I rent for free from my school, but am in the market for something like a scrambler XT. I'm looking for fellow divers, (note that I'm solo diving in the video...) so if you're from this area, let me know and we can shoot some dinner!

The longer the kayak, the faster. A prowler 13 will be a good option. They are very manouverable, and seaworthy.

Agreed, I have been looking at the prowler 13 angler so I have a good fishing 'yak as well, i Just didn't know how stable it would be sitting anchored in big swell.

Hey my twin lives in Destin and ill be there the weekend of the 9th. Im bringing my Yak, but I don't know any spots to hit. If your going out that weekend and can use a dive buddy hit me back.

Ok, sounds good. If I can't get a boat ride, I will most likely be doing some 'yak diving there on the 9th/10th. I was there last week and saw some almost 30 inch grouper that let me swim right up to them. Unfortunately, they're not in season until tomorrow. I'll be there this Saturday, I'll put up a report and video if it works out...

Im over in Pensacola and lookin for people to dive with. I dive out of a canoe which works fine when the surf isnt too high. Im also pretty new and have been hitting the bridges in the area for sheepshead. Let me know if you want to go.

I'm planning a trip to Destin on june 4th-11th, I am bringing my Tandem Hobie Island (trimaran sailing kayak) to attempt my first kayak spearing trip. I haven't planned any dive areas yet, but I have heard of a few wrecks close to shore... May try strapping a tank or two onto the trampolines for a scuba trip as well, since many sites seem to be 60+ feet.

Sounds like a nice rig. PM me when it is closer to that time. In destin, i have numbers for 3 spots that are less than 60 feet and have plenty of fish on them.
