It's more like a carbine style gun, that doesn't use bands. It's power source is a .22 caliber blank that shoots out an arrow shaft at your target.

Anyone have any experience with it. It sounds interesting and it does sound powerful. You can use it for hunting game and repelling certain predators.

Here are some links to their website:

Patco makes an interesting line of guns. I've never seen a broadhead style spearpoint before. I wonder if it holds in a fish as well as a barb. I also wonder how durable the broadhead itself is. If it gets slightly bent, is it going to throw off your shot. I used to bowhunt, and while I could shoot a target point with great accuracy, broadheads required a lot of fine tuning to fly right (that is why retractable broadheads are so popular). If such subtle tuning was required to shoot through air, I wonder how it would work shooting through water which is a much more dense medium (maybe it doesn't matter as much if you are at close range). Just some thoughts.

You gotta wonder if those Ramset charges are waterproof.

Can you buy the Ramset charges they sell at Home Depot or do you have to buy "special" charges??

Sounds like a pretty cool concept.

It looks a bit underpowered actually. I doubt that small shaft can travel that far. I guess it would be good for dragging a grouper out from under a ledge, getting a kill shot on a wounded fish, or maybe repelling a shark. But, it even says on its site that it is for shorter range. It even says on the site that the gun's "main purpose is to kill a struggling tethered fish so it can be easily handled and bagged" Therefore, proboly shouldn't be used as your primary spear gun unless you are going for some reef fish.

Can't you do the same thing with a ph? or a knife (at least the killing a wounded fish part)

It does look cool but I think the cost of this nifty little item would not be worth its limited capabilities (this is an assumption only). Between a regular speargun, stringer, tickle sticks, dive equipment, and all the other stuff we bring, I am not sure I would want another piece of equipment to worry about hanging off of my hip.

Still, on the cool-looking scale of 1 to 10 it is definitely a 10. Makes me wonder what it would do to a person. . . Sorry my homocidal tendancies make my mind wander. . .

My .02 cents worth

Now if the safety wasn't set on this thing and it went off in the boat or while strapped to you leg.

Not a good thing!

To hell with spearfishing, I'm thinking it's the perfect tool for home defense!!!

She told me that all you would have to do is use a blank without a shaft to knock em silly by shooting it right at them, the hydrostatic energy would be more than enough to finish them off. Without having to break out a billy club or knife.

The safety system is suppose to be reliable, but I don't know. They say that it can definitely be used for large game, but again the distance is something to contend with.

You can also use standard blanks you can by at home depot, they would work just fine.

Would this even be legal in California?
