I made this out of starboard. it came out pretty good for only costing about $20 in materials.

I want to see but the link is somehow off. Where did you source starboard that cheap?

it's $10 a square foot for starboard brand, but pvc board is pretty similar and a little cheaper. I also re-posted it with a few html codes.

You should talk to Henry on here (Ballenita). He makes gun racks out of PVC and they look great. I have 2 of them on my boat...

This is something I have never said to a bloke before but "that is a nice rack".:o :thumps:

I had one made out of PVC pipe riveted to an angle. Your design is great!

Well done.

Looks Great! Question, why not reverse the attachment point of the bungees so you can pull out a gun without having open the one adjacent? Also, do you have anything securing at the bottom?

bdeep what did you use for the bottom to keep the guns in place? I’m in the middle of a similar project and looking for ideas. Current idea is to build a shallow padded trough for the butts to sit in and keep them from kicking out while underway..

CharlieC, keep us posted on your design. I am going to attempt the same type of design. My idea for the bottom piece is a tray with individual boxes for the butt of each gun. If this works, I will drill several holes in the bottom of the tray for drainage.

No need to worry about the guns bouncing or slipping out if you have two holders for each gun. One on the top and bottom.

I've been on Bdeep's boat in rough weather and I have similar mounts on my boat. Here's what mine look like. The original design was just to hold one gun on each side of the t-top as in the first pic. Now, I have room for 4 guns up front and out of the way. They attach with two stainless screws in the back that screw into the starboard and clamp down on the t-top legs.

Cuda I like that setup with the YETI seat. I might only have one strap thats why I was asking about the bottom, but now you have me rethinking it. What is the black foam you are using for the padding in the U part of the gun holders? Is it foam tape? I'm looking for some sort of good water proof padded tape like electrical tape with 1/8 foam padding, so I can wrap a Stainless crossbar. Tool dip is my other thought but tape is easier to replace if/when needed.

CharlieC,
The black foam is Seadek. It's the thin stuff maybe about an 2-3 mm thick. It has a sticky back to it and just cut it to the size you need. You can get it here http://www.seadek.com/

Good luck with your project. Be sure to post some pics when your done.

Perfect thanks will post pic's when I'm done - still deciding/planning. I'm trying to design the rack on either side of the tower to accommodate 75cm pipe guns as well as 65" mid handle wood guns.

Yours look perfect for all reef guns. Maybe Ill make one side of the tower for reef guns and the other side for big wood guns. At any rate that seadeck is what I was looking for as far as the pad goes.

Curious if bdeep's rack has anything on the deck to keep the guns but in place.

CharlieC,
I haven't been on his boat in a while but I know there was nothing to hold the guns on the deck. Just two mounts like the one he posted in the pic. Most guns are going to have a pad on the butt of the gun for loading. That pad along with the two mounts will hold them in place. We get some nasty thunderstorms in the summer here and the seas get big. They won't go anywhere.

If any of your guns don't have the loading pad you could use the Seadek on the floor to keep them from sliding. I took one of my new mounts off and took a pic to give you a better idea of the design. Also, just for reference the guns in my pic are 40" and a 55" if that helps you out any.

I only see one set of straps in his pics. I understand with 2 straps they wont go anywhere. I was going to go with one strap and something to hold the butts in place like a 1-2" lip type of setup. Ill post some picks when I get it together.

Here is what I came up with today. I built a spearing tower for my boat and I wanted the racks on the outside of the tower pointing up.
I will be putting one more up to so I can lock big guns down in two places. I will be adding some bungees for the tie downs between the bolts.

Derlin rack shaped up and ready to mount:

I made a base plate that I could weld to the cross tube and bolt the plate to.
I welded the flat head bolts to the base plate:

http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu254/CharlieSea/Radar%20and%20Gear%20Tower/tigboltsonplate.jpg

I recessed the underside hold to fit the weld beads around the bolts:

Fit up and tack the mounting plate to the cross bar.
The crudeness of the plate where the holes are is so I can tig those spots directly
to the bar in 4 places:

Final bolt up after tiging and grinding the base plate on I use 1/4 tubing to cover the threads on the bolts/tie down posts:

http://i653.photobucket.com/albums/uu254/CharlieSea/Radar%20and%20Gear%20Tower/coverthreadswith25inchtubing.jpg

Final install from starbord side:

Cheers,
Charlie

I thought about that after i drilled the holes.
