Hi All,

I need your advice and experience. I am a novice to speargunning and have a Pneumatic Seac Asso speargun which i use when scuba diving.

It has worked really well but i wanted to fit a reel to it as it is a pain in the ar$e wrapping the line up between shots.

I ordered Seac's designated reel :-

www.bluewatersports.com/shop/seac-reel-for-asso-spearguns.html

But when i fire it now it barely fires about 1 metre! There is just no power. I can see that the power is dampened by not being able to spin the reel with the line on it quick enough. The reel moves very freely and shouldnt be a problem.

Does anyone have any ideas how i can make the reel work and regain the power i had prior to this?

That's not the function of the reel. You will still need to wrap the line between shots. Even if it is a PITA (how often do you shot dude?).

The reel is basically a "line storage device" used when you shoot a big fish. Specially while freediving.

Oh dear.......

Serious egg on face now........

I have only just bought the gun so i have only shot a couple of times.
I was hoping to use the reel to keep the line from getting tangled. Obviously this is not the case.

Thanks for your supportive help!! Barstards!!! lol.....:p

If you wrap it properly it won't get tangled. In pneumatics, double wrap is the way to go. Use the reel to adjust the proper lenght and it will be easier to do it.

He man, this is a good place to learn. Next thing you should pick up is freediving!! Lol, just kidding....

Yes wrap your line aprox the max distance you plan on shooting, and if the fish fights, give it line....

Dont be scared to ask, there is no one I know that knows everything.

You can't escape the wrapping unless you start free shafting.

This is just God's way of making sure you end up with a bigger speargun. You buy a gun, put a reel on it, the reel doesn't work the way you think, you buy a gun that it is more appropriate for, you shoot a big fish, the end.

What type fish you going after? Maybe free shafting would be easier and safer.
