did a little inshore flood tide diving today...pleasantly surprised.
Met Kevin at the ramp a little past 8am.
We struck out accross the harbor towards the cooper river. about half way there we come up on a pod of dolphins. They were very friendly and came straight to the boat. One even turned on his side to get a good look at us passing parallel with the boat just under the surface. Kevin quickley made up his mind that he wanted to swim with them. He swam around on top for a while with the dolphins circling him. They came close, but still kept a fair distance...very neat though.
Next stop was a large creek that generally holds cleaner water. We hunted some pilings with no luck. On a whim Kevin suggests we try a nearby rocky shorline. In we go...
1st drop I find myself in almost zero viz. It was like being blindfolded with a red clay colored bandana...you could only see the color of the water. Apparently I had swam out a bit far and dropped onto the mud bottom.
2nd drop...various fish life, all small, but nonetheless fun to watch.
...take a look and make sure Kevin is alright...breathe up, quietly slip back under and get back on the ledge we were working.
3rd drop...more fish life and I get buzzed by a small school of 2-3lb mullet.
Further into the dive I have something come into the very edge of my field of view. I wanted to say they were trout but am hesitant to put a positive I.D on anything.
4th drop: Further down the rock bank I slip underneath the world we know once more...a lone finger mullet darts to my left side, seconds later a beautiful bronze cruise missile glides by me. I take the shot...
