You need a flat lens or the camera will not focus underwater. Mako spearguns gives the flat lens for free if you buy the camera and housing from them. Their lens works great for me so far to 185 ft depth.

They also have speargun mounts for railguns which work well.

What jfjf said. Got ours at makospearguns, the hero helmet 1080, with free flat lenses and best setting to R5. Divers direct had them but with no flat lenses so we went with mako, great folks, then bought the gun mount, also need tri pod. total cost $$355

I bought mine from gopro.com......I also opted for the 960 HD for $179.99. works great. I never got a flat lens but I need one, it makes a difference.

Whats the difference between the surf hero and the helmet hero? Im on the mako site and am confused between the 2. And is there a big difference between the 1080 helmet hero and the 960 helmet hero? Are they the same camera? Im new to all of this and am interested in getting one

Based on what I read it turns out that most people prefer to shoot in 720p vs 1080p because the quality of video is better in 720p (less distortions). That is why I initially bought the 960. It turns out that the 720p mode for the 960 is limited to 30 frames per second whereas the 1080 can shoot in 60 frames per second in 720p mode. Shooting in 60 fps allows for some bad ass slow-motion effects with no choppiness. So I just bought the 1080. I think the 1080 Hd is 299.00. Get the flat lens kit and the Lcd monitor kit. Its worth the extra money !!
