My buddy who has had foot surgery has not been able to dive for the past 2 months. But now were on leave till JAN. 3 and nothing but diving in mind till than. He calls me and and says his wife bought him a reel for his rife 110 competitor series. Needless to say i became a said puppy dog because she gave to him as an early X MAS gift so he can dive with it for the Leave block. So i start to whine and cry to my wife talking about the MLPA closures. So tells me to shut up and goes in the closet and hands me a bag and there it is a go pro hero 2. I will post a video of tomorrows dive tomorrow.
Any advice on maintnence or operational considerations to a noob Go Pro guy will be greatly appreciated.

Read the manual, set it to one button mode so that it starts up and starts shooting. If you are wearing it on your head, put it on under your hood or otherwise secure it (there's a story of personal failure here  ). Figure out the point of aim before you go diving, because that sucks. Lastly, get the flat lens as soon as you can. I got mine from mako, but there are many options. The quality without it is tolerable, with it is spectacular.
Most importantly, post vids :D
Happy diving

Fins1986 - You had better get your wife something nice and FAST! Like RIGHT NOW. And still give her a nice present on Christmas day.
This is more important than the GoPro stuff.
For the GoPro, get a spare battery and a spare card (16 GB Class 10 or 32 GB Class 10).
The Mako flat lens has already been mentioned. Look into this flat lens, http://spearboard.com/showthread.php?t=136987 , since it allows you to use standard camera filters which can make a huge difference with color.
Most importantly, get a Floaty Backdoor, so you will never lose your camera.
Use the camera and the mounts, whether it is head strap, wrist strap or speargun mount, in a pool or calm waters first.
Make sure you have your routine down and you can do it blindfolded. Then you can deal with heavy surf, surge, swells, etc.
Good luck and dive safe.

I just ordered one for myself (Merry Xmas to me...). If you order the surf edition (same price) you get the floaty door included plus some surfboard mounts that I figure could go on a kayak as well.

Go Pro now sells its own Lens mod kit as well.

As far as mounting goes, for now I was thinking of using their wrist mount (it has a separate housing so I'll put the lens kit on that). Seems like a good way to go until I get used to shooting with it. Don't want to lose this!
Oh, and I noticed on the Go Pro site, they give a little advice: test your empty housing at depth before using the camera. A pain for us shore divers but probably a smart idea.
Have fun!

I like spearboard!!! I showed my wife that "fins1986" got a go pro for X-mas present and she said : ok, I will get you one too. :):):)
So I have never used an underwater camera before. Any good websites I can order the camera, flat lens and housing? I know already Mako has a set with flat lens and housing for 299. I will need also a mounting for riffe 100 euro x with reel.
Thanks.

Ah. I see. Thanks.
Looks like I'll have a return to make!
You'd think Go Pro would get on this thing.
