Id love to jump on this again this year, but my wife has a bun in the oven that will be due at the end of August.

For anyone else on the fence about going on this trip, its worth every penny and more. George has to be the coolest charter Captain out there. Good luck George.

The freediving trips list the price while the others I looked at don't. Did people cancel and open up spots or is that just how the calendar is displaying the events?

Capt. George

Most of my trips are booked with dive shops and they set the price depending on how many people they want on the boat. Some shops only like 12 so there price is anywhere from $ 750---1000 Some shops will fill the boat & it drops the price down to $480---600 on a three day trip.
Peace

I'd have to agree with momma on that one buddy and it's a good thing, normal people are boring:lol:

Planning my Baja trip either before or after this Sand Dollar trip so I'll look forward to hanging with you. Should be an especially interesting trip as it's also George's bday. Don't forget your case of beer for the captain:)

^^^Go to the link for sand dollar charters. It has all of the information you need to reserve your spot.

Capt George, what kind of depths do you guys hit out there? Or what depth should can divers be proficient?

Thanks
Cameron

maybe I'll try and answer that for you since George is out to sea.....

That's a fairly open ended question, but as far as the depths are concerned, it varies. Cortez Banks shallow spot is about 20' deep with the majority of the reef in 45-60. If you're hunting the edges for yellowtail, it's obviously deeper. Diving the islands you get everything from diving super shallow for halibut and bass to deep water spots on the yellows.

Personally, I'm not a deep diver with my comfort level being 50' or shallower. If I'm diving deeper than that, I try and be much more selective with my shots and don't let the fish get deep. If I get a fish tied up deep, I either have a buddy spot me or help me, and if it's deeper than I feel comforatable diving, it's time to go back to the boat for a tank. That's one of the nice things about Georges boat, plenty of tanks:) although I've never had a cause to use them.

Aside from Cortez, you can pretty much dive to your comfort level. If you're not comforatable deep, stay shallow. If the current is ripping as it can on the Banks, stay on the boat if you think it might be too much for you.

I hope that helps.

I will be on the August 2-4 trip and am very much looking forward to it. I have looked on google but haven't been able to find any sort of bottom map or soundings. Does anything like tthat exist? It's not necessary but most places I dive around here I have actually been able to find and study charts. Saves some energy and time spent 'learning' a location. Although if viz is like they say I imagine we'll be seeing the bottom from the surface much of the time :)
