Hi,
I'm driving down the Baja to spearfish and wondered if anybody has ever had to use Mexican auto insurance before? Any company is good if you never turn in a claim, right?
Thanks

If you take a rental you have to tell the rental company and buy from them. If it's you personally owned vehicle you can purchase it from any insurance agency. When driving across the border I am occasionally checked when entering Mexico and they do ask for proof of insurance. If you dont have it you can buy it there, in Mexico, but I don't trust doing business south of the border.
Hope this helps,
Rob

I go through Baja Bound. I have never HAD to use it, but I have heard good things from a few that have had to use it.

I've bought Mexican auto insurance before. I was hoping to hear from people who have actually had to use it. I've been buying through Lewis and Lewis. Just testing the waters to see if anyone might have had a claim.
Thanks for your posts.
Take care,

I always used to add it on to my insurance policy because I have a friend that had his truck stolen and the company at the border did nothing. Luckily he did not know he was paying for Mexican insurance through his regular policy.

Do you know what company he had insurance with?

I buy mine online through AAA. I've never had to use it but I hope that a company affiliated with the AAA is somewhat reputable and reliable.
