MAC final cut pro x. I got it from a buddy that produces television shows so I didn't spend anything on it.

Pc >>>. do Sony Vega Pro. Very good software and user friendly. In my opinion Vega Pro is one of the best video editing software out there for PC.

Mac book pro. iMovie comes on the machine and it's easy to use.

Yeah, My wife has an undergrad degree in television production, and is blown away by the capabilities of iMovie. For a piece of software that comes standard on a machine it is very full featured. If you are getting into the professional side of things, Final Cut is a great way to go.

might be a little late, but i have used Adobe production on PC for a while and love it. i have used some other cheap programs for basic editing like, like Pinnacle. They are super easy to use and do a good job, as long as you just want a basic cut and splice type movie. Adobe Premiere takes some learning, but once you learn some of its abilities it is incredible. Search youtube for some how-to on them. Tom Antos has a great series.

Adobe Premiere is the best PC software on the market, it's very similar to Final Cut Pro, so if you train in one you can switch over to the other. Sony Vegas isn't bad (i'm using it now since Premiere isn't running as well now my PC is a little old). Vegas is not as quick or user friendly but it works well with most codecs.

Don't waste your money buying a Mac as you've just invested in a PC. Get either software listed above, then go to youtube and do searches like "how to use Premiere" etc. As you get more advanced be more specific with your searches, eg "How do I add audio effects" etc.

Oh, and the key in either software is getting the parameters right BEFORE you start editing, things like framerate, screen res/ratio etc. And when you're rendering you want to make sure the settings are set to maximise uploading for youtube. Ever notice how some youtube videos only show in 480p instead of 720/1080 or how sometimes there are black bars down the sides of the video? that's usually because the settings are wrong.

Premiere pro is on piratebay.org, I found a good copy (full version) with install instructions that had been uploaded by a guy named 'thethingy'.

I downloaded Windows Movie Maker for my p.c. When i tried to import the video file it says something about being in the wrong format from my Hero 2. Any ideas how to convert.

I second this Tanc advice. I currently use Adobe Premiere Pro. I have used many others and they all work well. I have the Master Collection that comes with alot of other Adobe products like Photoshop.
