First wood project

Just finished an end grain cutting board for the wife. Purple heart and cherry. She is going to love it with dead fish in the kitchen.

I love the lines the grain makes... kinda wavy like...
What did you finish it with?
Does it double as a chess board?

I finished it with mineral oil.

It will not work as a chess board the second row in is a much smaller "box". I dont know how man squares you need for a chess board and no need to use end grain for a chess board.

End grain is just much easier on your knifes and hides alot of the cut marks.

Good lookin board! If you mix mineral oil and bees wax together in a double boiler, it makes for a longer lasting finish, also doesnt let as much juice get obsorbed into the wood.

Im sure ur wife will love it!
