Scott, host spearboard on this baby!!

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=3405888342Once a million dollar vector-parallel supercomputer for research projects at the Australian National University, this Fujitsu VPP300 is now being auctioned off at eBay. Although eclipsed by technology advances, the Jurgen Klinsmann (or perhaps Merv Hughes) of supercomputers can still boast impressive performance stat or two.
With 13 143MHz vector processors, a fast crossbar interconnect and 14GB of RAM, the four-cabinet machine boasts peak performance taps of 28.6 Gflops. Back in 1996, when the supercomputer was installed at Australia's National University it was the dog's bollocks. Now the ANU's Fujitsu VPP300 is being put out to pasture by that most modern of routes, an auction on eBay .

I actually got a chance once to see a government super computer (I won't go into details as to where). This thing was so powerful, it generated so much heat that they couldn't use AC's to cool it. Instead, the processor, bigger than a telephone booth, was totally immersed in some kind of liquid coolant which circulated over the computer. That was a big computer.

New stuff is much friendlier to work with and cooling and super cooling are very impractical for commercial apps.Room temp super-comps are not sci-fi.Room-temp supercoductors may be.
