So i installed my mako flat lens the other day. R5 is fine with no vig. But is it wide enough to show most of the action? R4 has more of a fisheye effect
But has a little vig. Is this option better? Thanks
Alec
R-5 is what you probably want. A wide angle lens makes everything look further away than it really is. So... the wider the angle, the smaller (and farther away) your fish will look when you shoot it. So super wide, has some major disadvantages.
The advanatge of wide angle is that aiming is much more forgiving because the lens sees to much... it is the opposite of a telescope.
A wide angle used underwater also has the advantage of making the water appear clearer than it really is. You can capture the image of a diver who is 4 feet away, but looks 8 feet away. With only 4 feet of water between the subject and the camera, it makes the water appear clear. A wide angle provides the distinct advantage of getting close to a big object and still getting it all in the frame. If the shark looks close in R-5, he is actually chewing on the end of your gun.
R-5 has no vignetting and is a good balance between the physical limits imposed by the optics.
