at the cove right now water looks light green but hard to tell in the low light I'll ask a bubble blower

Mr. Bubbles says 5-7 ft vis in the top 30 ft then opens up to 10-15. tons of H&L guys right on the line. if you get out a conditions report would be nice....
good luck

Nice...thank you. I'm hoping that will translate into 10ft. by tomorrow and a little further out.

I knew it would be a zoo with all the YT reports, going to stick tight to the kelp. I will relay the conditions.

if anyone else has info let me know, thanks

I just looked at it. It's good enough for a shore dive, but there isn't any kelp up as far as i could see. Lots of boats fishing the North West side. Hope the kelp floats soon.

i bet its gonna look like a parking lot out there... divers be safe! and i may take some pictures to send around to all the organizations that pushed for closures just to show em what they've created and ask them how long it will take before one of us gets run over as the 1st season gets underway.

LJ does not sound too promising. Has anyone been in the water in N.Co today? Yesterday I could not see my feet while sitting on my board in Encinitas.

Hey Eric,
What Mike said, the kelp has been down all week. The current has been ripping and marginal vis.

The sportboats are getting YT by yo-yo-ing in deeper water. Never say never, but it sounds like they are hanging deeper off the kelp.

That's the same word I got. Going to give it a shot because I have to get my gills wet and there won't be any fish in my backyard. Going to bring a smaller gun to hit the reef if all kelp is down and vis. sucks. Thanks.

I dive by the same philosophy, I shot my PB YT in late March early April. I saw a school a month ago so you never know.

May try to get out in the afternoon tomorrow. Please let us know how it looks:beer::beer::beer:

I will post a report of what we find.

Wold have but no kelp up. Vis report at 630am 4 to 6 ft total shit. Bait was everywhere going nuts birds too but no pelagics that we saw. Went in and checked the reef it was 6 to 8 ft some spots a hazy 10 ft. Tough morning no kelp or vis is the short of it. sorry on wives iPhone hard to type I would say do some honey doos tomorrow. Late

It was hard to believe with all the life and action on NW corner there was no action....didn't see any kayakers with hookups either. Forgot, lots of dolphins and we even saw a humpback whale in shallow, only 300 yds off beach, it was crazy.

LJ was crap, cold, dark and green water. 50+ boats and only 1 YT brought in. Metered Kelp 20ft down. Floating Bull kelp branches made it look like a Buck graveyard.

Sporties had not a single YT so if the reports show they have, the're lying, i followed them around and the 4 that were out there never anchored which says a lot.

2 hours and the best I could find was 3' of vis. Kelp was pea soup.
1 borderline halibut on the inside.

Viz was terrible. I could not see my buddy on the surface when we were 8 feet from each other. We made it a point not to dive close to one another.

The viz was 5 feet on the surface, 10 feet on the bottom, and 15 feet silhouetting upward into the sun.

we even saw a humpback whale in shallow, only 300 yds off beach, it was crazy.

Not sure if we saw the same thing, but a big Grey Whale and her calf cruised by after we set anchor, only 25 feet from the boat. Insane!

Yeah remember that time we went out and the kelp was down everywhere and the viz was like 5 ft and you dropped down and shot a 40+lbr? Just go... never know. text me when youre done...

You never know what you might see!

10' vis today. Diveable but not good. 2+ hours and nothing worthwhile.
kelp being held down with a straight north current, although not strong.

way to go Mikeme... good to hear something was taken. seemed likely that all the boat pressure would push em deep if they were around.
We checked Pt. Loma 1st yesterday (sunday) but the viz was 5' ish and cold. we decided to hit up LJ for better, not stellar conditions but a lot of boat traffic to boot. i had a boat come within 50' of me while out in the kelp, what little was visible from the surface.
Then we headed in to look for flatties. viz was a hazy 12'ish. not much life seen overall. Like ya'll said... bait was around, birds were active... just no targets to shoot at.

About a mile west of the kelp. You would see the Yellows break the surface. You'll see the cluster of all the boats.

I'm guessing it's from the gaff.

I saw Mikeme out in the water with his gun. He shot those two fish. (Hence the hole in the gut) His float was tombstoning for a while. Saw him from my Kayak. Today the kelp is up, vis is good and sun is out. On my way to get some yellows at the edge of the kelp.

No shit?

Then why would someone hang a jig from the lip for a picture and say he got them on hook & line?

Definately not the same as someone catching a WSB in Monterey Bay on H&L and then posing for the picture with a speargun, but still weird none the less.

I'm poor judge of wind speed but the wind was dead until around 11:00 then increased to what appears to be about 6 knots
See

Edit (scroll down to weather then click on the little "view plots" and you can graph wind over various time scales)
1 m/s ~ 2knots

Ohhhhhh. Never mind, I get it :slap:

You don't want to let the goofballs know that they can get them with a gun.
Pretend that all the action is on hook & line, and that the boat traffic is very dangerous in that area....

After all, it is the interwebs and who knows what kind of rif raff is trolling about (no pun intended).

Went there diving today. 5-8 foot viz. little kelp but enough. Wind picked up so we left. No fish seen. Now I've gone more than ten times, and only seen one fish and missed. I've never had a year like this. Hopefully it will change soon or have to head north.

Thanks Joe. I usually don't like yellows because they are a little fishy but this one was one of the best fish i have had. I don't know what they have been feeding on. Great sushi, and poke.:thumps:

I was down at my slip spraying off the bird crap on my t-top and I asked a bunch of fishermen that came in at the same time how they did.... the wind picked up and they all came in at the same time.. a couple were tight lipped... I overheard one guy saying he got a couple YT in the spot they've been hitting.. the rest sounded like they didnt get any..

The Yellows were not biting. We casted on them a dozen times that day, and only two ate it. The spot is where you see all the boats.
