They are now taking pre orders. If you pick one up, let us know how it works out.

I have a mako flat lens with the red filter and I love it but I'm considering this because I can use wide angle w/o vignetting. It's not too bad of a price either, compared to the eye of mine housing. Any reviews would be helpful, thanks

If they had a polarizer lens and also a red filter I wouldn't hesitate to buy this.

Can someone tell me why you need a second housing? My wife just bought me a hero 2 and it's rated for up to 197 ft... Why would I need this additional housing?

do you ever intend to use the camera on land? do you like the fish eye option?

I use the gopro to film all sorts of inane and not interesting things i do so I like the extra versatility of the additional housing and lens. the convex lens further widens the FoV

Because without and flat lens fix, underwater video looks blurry or slightly out of focus.

I got mine yesterday and had it in the pool. Yes! Definite improvement over the Mako. It has a glass lens and absolutely no vignetting on any of the settings, including the very widest. Definitely worth the $50. Here is a video sample I found on youtube.

I was using my GoPro dive housing near the surface shooting some vid of baitfish pods in 1080p wide FOV and I noticed it has some exposure issues at far right/left. Center was spot on, dive down a bit, it was fine, but everytime I was shooting just below the surface the right and left was burned a bit or some flare going on.
It was overcast, vis wasn't the greatest, first day out with the dive housing. I'm curious if my Mako flat lens would have the same issues, though I've never shot with it in wide FOV...only medium. Not sure if it's a wide FOV thing or just the shooting conditions.

Here is a little video I put together of a FII Level 1 freediving class I taught this weekend. A super great group of people I worked with!! Enjoy. I filmed it with the GoPro Hero 2, the new GoPro Dive Housing and set at 720p wide @ 60fps. Edited with Imovie.

Not a fan of how the lens covers up the front of the lcd display. Used one today, its nice to not have the vignetting but it really isnt that big of a deal. Cant go wrong tho, it does work.

Will this housing work with the "GoPro HD Hero 960 "?

Ok well I got the new gopro underwater housing after having the mako flat lens. Currently I'm still using it with medium FOV instead of wide because of the vignetting from the mako flat lens. Should I start using wide FOV now that I have the new housing or what?

Wide FOV will give you more of that fish eyed look. Med will still give you plenty of subject matter without making it look like you are in a fishbowl. Keep the med, it looks good on the dive housing.

Lenses from blur fix are round, lenses to the new go pro housing are rectangle. Pm me if you are looking for lenses for the new dive housing.

Just got a Go Pro and are getting used to using it. Are you better with the new dive housing, or getting a Mako flat lens.

Thanks

There is no comparison between the two. One looks like you are staring down a toilet paper tube, the OEM dive housing does not.

I've been experimenting with both the GoPro OEM underwater housing/lens and the MAKO Flat lens. I have been using medium wide angle setting. To be honest, I'm not seeing a clear difference.

What I would really need to do is put two cameras on one mount, but I have a Hero and a Hero 2, so I can't really make a fair comparison of the housing when the camera itself is not the same.

I know the OEM will allow a wider setting, but that is not useful for spearfishing for me.

Ok, well actually a friend of mine bought me the brand new GoPro OEM housing because I use his spearfishing clips in my videos and mention his name as well. Before I had the Mako lens and it worked great. So pretty much it'll be around the same clarity?

I have a couple of dives with the new GoPro housing, but would love to be able to put the red filter that I had with the Mako lense on it. The videos I have taken are super green, but clear. The red filter I have is able to float within the lense and will not stay in place.

Hi, guys. I soaked a gopro diving case in freshwater after dive and now there is some water on the inside of the flat lens that won't get out. Has anyone had the same kind of problem and if so how do I solve it? Thank you.

You may need to unscrew the flat lens and take it off to dry... or you could try putting a whole bunch of descant packets in the case to suck the water out. There's no need to ever open your case and put it in water ever. In the future just rinse it while its still closed and you will be fine.

Thank you. I regularly soaked my Canon case, as instructed, thought it would be the same with this one.
