FINALLY got out on the Ande yesterday.
Short notice left me no time to get He so I left the speargun and planned air for the bottom and 32% and 80% for deco RT=55minutes. A few expierenced recreational divers bounced the super structure and I laughed when they headed up after 8 minutes.. 50-60' vis ZERO current, 80* all the way to the bottom.

I would go with you, but I am afraid you might laugh at me as I head up at 8 minutes (with a big fish)..:cowboy:

Just got to watch the vid and very cool stuff man, if yal don't mind what gas and algorithm gives you 8 mins of ndl at 185?
How much time did you spend on 21%?

Nothing will give you 8 minutes of NDL at 185. Single tank divers left the wreck after 8 minutes, but remember that it takes a few minutes (3-4 minutes@ 50 feet per minute) to descent to depth. Also, no one on a single actually got to 185' they hung up much higher. As you can see from my profile, I only hit 180 for a very short time.

I spent 20 minutes on air at depth.

Us (single tank divers) can descend at around 170 feet per minute :D

Thanks for the profile graph to show your gas switches. I'll dive the hole, but that's about enough for my comfort level. Nice job on holding your stops almost exactly stuck on the number.

Hey ShcubaSteve,
I dove the Ande' once on a single 120HP w/ H-valve, & 30 cft deco tank. Ripping current & moderately cold water, .86 cft/min is about my highest SAC, but I still had 1100 psi of bottom gas left.
Our bottom profiles were darn similar:
We both went just over 180'.
I stayed under 165' three min. longer than you.
You stayed on the wreck three min. longer than me.
(If there had been fish I could have added 10 min. BT if necessary, but there were no fish. It usually takes less than 5 min. more to get it done.
I'm sure you could have also extended your dive had you wanted to do so.)
Our deco profiles were not close:
I had 16 min. max, and did not take credit for 12 minutes on 87% O2.
You did about 19 min. more deco.
How many tanks one carries is a matter of choice and planning.
Not all single tank divers are tech rookies.
Maybe we'll hit a dive together one day!
(I own a set of twin 100HP's and a bunch more deco bottles, but probably won't use them if it's not over 218'.)

I prefer to bounce that wreck and get the heck out. Bulls can get real feisty there in a hurry. Same can be said about a lot of wrecks in the area.

Hi Chad, I definitely want to dive the ande again- it was well worth hauling all that gear around. Its interesting to see how different our deco profiles are, given our similar bottom times. I had many more deep stops then you (My first stop was 60', yours seems 25 or 30' ) and more overall deco despite the fact I used two gasses on the ascent (32, 80). Using vplanner I cannot create your dive with only 16 minutes of hang time. I would guess your using a buhlmann or another aggressive model to get such a short deco. Wild to see how different two theories play out on dives. I wonder if anyone else would post their profiles from dives to the ande for comparison.

Um YA! I'd be the guy that shot something and was on my way up in 5 minutes, laughing at the guys who spent 20 minutes on the bottom taking pics, then another half hour burning off deco. No offense to scubasteve, just a different philosophy.
