I am going on a fishing trip to the northern part of costa rica on the pacific side. I would also like to do a little spearing. Anyone have any information about spearfishing in that region this time a year? Or any info. at all?

While your question deals with an international location, you may have to post your question on another US region to get much of a response.

I dove the catalina islands out of tamarindo, came across only one dive shop there or in flamingo. neither took spearfishers. Aqua Rica was there name maybe they can point you in the right direction. however, I know dive shops offer trips further south near Jaco.

I think a lot of the SB members that shoot the big yellowfins went out with Richard Chemili (spelling?). He's a freediver too and one of the top guys out of Flamingo.

It is very windy this time of year in northern costa. Richard and most of the captains move south to carillo to avoid the winds for the next few months. The fish are there if you can handle the 25knot winds.

I, too, am planning a trip to Costa Rica. I definitely plan on spearing while there. However, I am finding that locating a charter is somewhat difficult. I have found only 1 freediving outfit on www.deepbluediving.com? Type in spearfishing in Costa Rica. Please let me know if you come up with anything. Good hunting!

Might be able to help you if you are going to Quepos. I have a sister who lives there and she knows the locals.
