Crew:
Larry Hanford (Captain)
Mark Harold (spearfisherman)
George Clayman (Fisherman)

Left James Island Yacht Club at about 6:30 AM and decided to head down south to 75-100’ range. Pulled up on some unproven numbers in about 75’ with a water temp in the low 60’s, couldn’t find decent bottom there so decided to move on to 100’ and our regular stomping grounds. Set the hook with a decent bottom show on the finder and immediately got into a few Blackfish and decided to dive the spot. On decent I moved out over light structure onto the main ledge and was suddenly surrounded by MASSIVE numbers of red snapper schooling everywhere and moderate numbers of legal grouper. Count for first dive (Larry and myself) was 2 red snapper, 2 grouper, and 1 lobster. Larry also got a nice cubera and another red snapper on his second dive. George pulled in a few nice blackfish and a legal red grouper on R&R, good job George and congrats on your first offshore fishing trip!

Notes on trip:

Seas 3-4+ with white caps
Winds 15 kt+ with a light cold rain
Water temps mid 60's with a nasty cold Thermo
Vis was 15-20' at best, cloudy but not chunky
Air temps in the low to mid 60's I guess

I got my personal best Red Snapper at 20.5# even though I forgot my stringer on the first dive and had to zip tie him to my BC! Also learned that it’s best to stay out of the wind in wet neoprene or get so damn cold you can’t do another dive  Guess it's time to get one of those Dive Parkas Kite is talking up!
