You'll develope a thick skin after a while. This forum is what you wanted to be. A place to make friends, a place to loose friends, a place to make a name for yourself by being a dick if you wanted too, a place to be hypocritical or queer, or a hero, a wanna be or just a place to kill some time. It's up to you.
If you stick around long enough you will learn how to filter the info to your needs. You can also contribute but you don't have to.
You can always choose to read postings that interest you and skipp the bs.

Buck up dude the ocean can be a lot harsher than an Internet forum. There is a lot to learn.

Dont let the door hit your sensitive bottom on the way out, you little sniveler. I will stand up for this forum any time, despite its numerous imperfections. Something doesnt need to be perfect or even great to be valuable and worthwhile.
ive had my share of negative experiences and disagreements. I even once had a guy on here say I was a fake spearo and a traitorous sell out. It still pisses me off, but so Fing what? By the same token I've had to make some apoligies after shooing my mouth off and being a dick. Again so Fing what? Its not the end of the world and I score so much from this forum.
For example:
Being able to chew the fat about diving and fish and gear 24/7 any time I want.
Gaining valuable insight as to the pros and cons of types and brands of gear from more experienced spearos.
Meeting some of my best dive buddies who invited me to come dive with them after reading my dive reports.
Being invited on numerous boats to dive, and being invited to dive in other cities. Sometimes with guys I have butted heads with on here.
Getting PMs with fish and vis reports all the time. I cant tell you how many clear days I've hit it based on info passed on from guy who my 1st contact with was on this forum.
Reading dive reports and getting all stoked and fired up to dive.
Getting info from locals, and getting taken to dive with locals on a small island on the far side of the planet, after making an inquiry on this forum.
Meeting and taking divers visiting my region from other parts of the country.
learned about the history of diving and spearing fish from those who remember it, and who know older divers.
Being gifted fillets, bugs, smoked fish, home brews, gear, copies of John Steel prints, megaladon teeth etc. from guys I met here.
Learning about SWB ,and what a smart person does and does not do when contacted by law enforcement.
Learned about and became involved with the MLPAs that have come to be a big factor on where to dive in Ca in the past few years.
Ive received many kind words, and much encouragement from highly accomplished divers who enjoyed reading my posts about taking reef fish.
I could go on and on, but the point is that this is a cool forum warts and all. And I get all this not even being a highly successful gamefish hunter like so many of my peers on here.
If you really want to get something out of this place, start fresh and post a dive report, preferably featuring you and a dead fish, then use the search function.
Most wanking troll 1st post ever.

You don't have to ask questions to learn, you can use the SEARCH function. ( whats that?)
Chances are that you'd ask questions that have been beaten to death anyway...
If you did, in fact read more that what was just on top when you happened to log on, you would know that despite the occasional bickering and moaning, there are a lot of awesome things that spearos on this forum do and say for each other.

yea know guy, if you stick around for a bit youll find out what this is all about. Some of the bitching, nit pickin, arguing bs is the most entertaining part of SpearBoard. But regardless of the different opinions and arguing, i Bet ANY of us would have each others back in the real world if needed. And there are tons of info being shared and a lot of really great meaningful threads also. Spearos are a small close knitted group of people. So its up to you. either your one of us...or your not. Either way, dive safe.;)

Stop sending these guys to BD. I don't want to deal with them there and the inmates are especially hostile right now since the offshore season hasn't kicked off yet.

yeah i understand the feeling of guys who are better then you at something that your seeking help from coming off as total dicks when they are arrogant in their manner. I tend to turn on the defensive quickly and look more towards starting a fight in return when i encounter this. It deffinatly dosent help with learning in that environment but it really dosent matter. the arrogant ones usually are arrogant to try and portray themselves as more knowledgable then they actually are any ways. Just keep your eye out for the guys who say "i dont know squat but ill teach you what little i do know"... those are the guys to learn from.
as you can see my post counts so very high from all my conversational learning on this forum.....
but i dont even spearfish so that dosent help....
