Spear One
01-06-2005, 12:54 PM
Spearfishing Specialties is proud to announce our first spearfishing seminar in 2005. The seminar will be at SCUBA QUEST dive store in Bradenton, Florida. The address of the store is: 3318 Manatee Avenue Bradenton, Florida 34205.
This will likely be our only winter seminar. Seating is limited to 75 persons. If you are planning on attending, please register early. Our 2004 seminar at Scuba Quest sold out well in advance of the seminar and many folks who waited until the last minute were not able to attend. The folks at Scuba Quest did a bang up job last year and this one is shaping up to be even bigger.
To register, call Scuba Quest @ 941-745-2511 and ask for John. He will take your name, phone number, and credit card number.
The date is: Saturday February 12th
The hours are: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
The fee for this seminar is $50.00 per person. Children 16 and under are $25.00 when accompanied by and adult admission.
The admission fee includes: breakfast snacks/danish, coffee & beverages in the morning. Lunch will be served from 12:00 to 1:00 pm. The lunch menu will be Bar-B-Que ribs and chicken with side dishes. Beverages included.
Seminar schedule:
9:00 am to 12:00pm: basic introduction segment including, selecting a speargun, speargun anatomy, rigging options, basic lineshafting, shaft & tip options, fish stringers, basic stalking and hunting technique, shot model demonstration, Q & A session.
12:00 to 1:00 pm: Catered lunch
1:00 pm to 4:00 pm: This will be the advanced portion of the seminar. In this segment we will have an in depth discussion on freeshafting. The popularity of freeshafting is starting to spread around the state and the USA. If you are interested in this type of spearfishing, this is a great oportunity to greatly shorten your learning curve.
We will also cover:
1) Commercial Spearguns and their application
2) Advanced shot placement and shot angles
3) Advanced stalking techniques
4) Gap closing
5) Using and understanding "body language".
6) Species behavior and characteristics
7) Multi shaft spearfishing concepts
8) Bouancy control and how it effects spearfishing
These topics and many more will be covered as time allows.
If weather allows, Dan Mc Mahon from team Headhunter has agreed to be my guest speaker. I plan on doing an interview with Dan on many topics and the audience can ask Dan questions as well. Dan is a well known and successful commercial spearfisherman and has agreed to share some of his experience and knowledge.
Please note: Dan's attendance is NOT guaranteed. Commercial Grouper closes on Feb 15th and if the weather is good, Dan will likely be on a last minute fishing trip and will be unable to attend. Hopefully.......the weather will be bad and he will be there, but ya gotta make a living.
There will be door prizes, giveaways, a 50/50 pool, and hopefully a ton of fun. I have recieved at least 50 inquiries about our next seminar over the past 5 months, so this sign up early.
See ya there,
Kevin
