Can't screw around on deals like that.

It's gone now, but if you were watching spearboard, you had a 45 minute warning before it was sold...

yeah, I paused to work out driving down there and BAM it was gone. I knew I should have bought and worked out the details later. OH WELL

When buying something like that, I'd always confirm in advance with the seller that they will let me pick the item up to avoid shipping charges. Once I tried to do that with a seller who was 10 miles away for some fins. He told me that he wasn't set up for retail and had to ship it to me with a 20 or 25 dollar shipping and handling fee. I'm glad that I hadn't already bid. Also confirm with the seller the amount of the shipping fee. Some sellers (like retailers) get volume UPS discounts on shipping which they pass on to you; others may ship from a retail UPS "pack and ship" type operation. Last month I was going to UPS my skis to California to avoid carrying them and avoid the $40 Delta extra bag fee. Before we even got to calculatiing the packing fee, the UPS charge was up to $76 (because the skis were so long). I bought those skis on ebay in August and had them shipped from Ontario, Canada to my brother's house outside Tahoe and the retailer only charged me $20 for shipping. The pack and ship guy told me that it was because of the volume discount (and I'm sure not marking up the shipping fee). When buying something odd-sized or heavy, it's best to avoid surprises so that "deal" doesn't leave a sour taste in your mouth.

I've seen tanks ship for about $40-$50 each. Still at that price with shipping included. It was a steal.

Always important to check shipping charges. When there's time, I'll email the seller and ask for an estimate. It's easier when sellers quote fixed shipping costs, but sometimes they hike them an amazing amount. I was looking for a bike rack a while back and the seller wanted like $40 shipping - and this was not a large rack, and every other seller was charging about $10 to ship. Needless to say, I didn't bid and neither did many others.

I'm sure some sellers do, but they really shouldn't be able to require shipping if you're willing to pick it up. At the very least, that should be spelled out in the auction beforehand.

I am glad it was one of the brotherhood of the shaft who bought it. I could not stand the thought that some PETA treehugger would have bought a 120, so he can stay down longer while he is feeding the sharks and morays.
