Got a call from Screen Name last night as I was in the garage tinkering around with some spearing stuff. He said he and D. Shelton were gonna give it a look in the AM and had an open spot. Considering that the boat is a 46 Cabo with HEAT and hot water, I jumped at the opportunity. Even if the vis was no good its still a nice boat to take a ride on.
Grabbed my new Rabitech 110 that I was yet to pull the trigger on and we headed out at the crack of 10. My kinda trip. Hit a few rockpiles in shallow that looked good but there were few fish. Vis was shootable but not great, maybe 10 feet. Next we went to the ultra secret, cant miss, sheepshead dillyhole and the fish were home. Zero gags but more sheepies than you could shake a shaft at. Vis was a little better and I could actually see the others near the bottom while I was floating on the top. Game on.
One by one the sheepshead were dropped. After a while we hunted for only the biggest. After 2 or 3 dives the box was pretty full and we were all pretty cold. Actually Screen Name skipped the last dive and the pic below is what we found when we got back onboard.
I shot a personal best 7 1/4 pounder and DS had several near that range. More than once "Id like to have these in the state tournament" was overheard in the cockpit. We never did see a keeper grouper.
It sure is nice to step out of the water, step indoors, then take a hot shower and fill your suit with hot water before and after each stop.
Thanks for the invite guys!

Dude......Read the Spearboard photo policy. I believe that it states that photos of napping Michelin men with a beer are not allowed. :D

Well, as luck would have it my schedule for today opened up and having received another invite on the TH, I appeared at DS' house and had my gear onboard before anyone else showed up.
Great day. Boat is awesome, weather was flawless, and the vis was good in 25 feet and top to bottom in 45. While dodging Bayliners who seemed to think the dive flag was a "free beer" sign, we shot a nice batch of fish including gags, hogs, and the ever present sheepshead. The gags were very skittish and would leave the ledge at the first sight then watch from way out on the sand. Stalking them out there was quite challenging. The hogs were tough too....heh, heh just kidding. A few of the spots has 50 or more nice sheepshead but we didnt really bother with them too much today. Screen Name did bag a few with one well over 5 pounds. In fact I think he would be top shooter for the day overall.
Lotta fun and NICE to be back in the water with some vis and bearable temps.

OK, maybe I helped illustrate that pic a little. Screen doesnt even drink beer. When falling asleep on the deck however you leave yourself open to deviants with cameras. :D

Nice report Ed. How did you like your new gun? I almost just bought a similar one, but opted for a Riffe #3 Comp instead. :) Can't wait to shoot it!
