Got a call from Screen Name last night as I was in the garage tinkering around with some spearing stuff. He said he and D. Shelton were gonna give it a look in the AM and had an open spot. Considering that the boat is a 46 Cabo with HEAT and hot water, I jumped at the opportunity. Even if the vis was no good its still a nice boat to take a ride on.
Grabbed my new Rabitech 110 that I was yet to pull the trigger on and we headed out at the crack of 10. My kinda trip. Hit a few rockpiles in shallow that looked good but there were few fish. Vis was shootable but not great, maybe 10 feet. Next we went to the ultra secret, cant miss, sheepshead dillyhole and the fish were home. Zero gags but more sheepies than you could shake a shaft at. Vis was a little better and I could actually see the others near the bottom while I was floating on the top. Game on.
One by one the sheepshead were dropped. After a while we hunted for only the biggest. After 2 or 3 dives the box was pretty full and we were all pretty cold. Actually Screen Name skipped the last dive and the pic below is what we found when we got back onboard.
I shot a personal best 7 1/4 pounder and DS had several near that range. More than once "Id like to have these in the state tournament" was overheard in the cockpit. We never did see a keeper grouper.
It sure is nice to step out of the water, step indoors, then take a hot shower and fill your suit with hot water before and after each stop.
Thanks for the invite guys!
