Ran the first 2 trips of the season on 25 and 26 Mar. both were Megladon hunts so no fish reports. Fri the seas ran 3-4ft out to 40mi with 69.6deg water temp on the surface and 68deg at 105ft, vis 30-40ft, air temp mid-60's. Layed down on the way in to slick within 20mi.
Sat. was a solid 4ft with some 5's. Overcast with air temp at 60 for a high. We only made it 25mi and the water temp was 60deg top to bottom(was 65 on Fri when we passed thru) at 100ft, vis 30-40ft. Had a mola-mola(sunfish) come up to within 10ft of the boat as the divers were surfacing after 1st dive. It stayed by the boat for about 20min, letting a diver swim up to it, even rolled onto it's side at the boat. It looked to be about 5ft across.
Weathered out yesterday, today and tomorrow, and then Wed, and Thurs look great,2-4 offshore(meg trips also), and Fri. another cold front gets here(hopefully the last).
Richard(Hunter)
The water temp is right for the fish to be offshore now. I don't have trips Tues thru Fri of next week, so maybe if the weather is good, we can do something. I'll call you. There was alot of flounder off the ledge on the flats according to divers.

Tom,
Sounds good about the temps and next week. May try to work something for next Wednesday or Thursday. I will keep an eye on the weather. Let me know if the meg teeth guys start seeing a bunch of fish.

I got Wed, Thurs, and Friday in with Meg divers before the weather closed in. I heard the words from my group on Thurs that really makes a spearfisherman sick; after the dives the group said there were hogs everywhere, 2 to 3ft long, coming so close they had to almost push them out of the way, so they could find teeth. Bugs are showing up too. The temp at 40mi was 68deg top to bottom, with 40ft+ vis. 25mi was 68 top and 60 bottom, great vis there too. I've got meg trips again, Mon and Tues(good after losing today and tomorrow to weather), but the forecast for Wed doesn't sound bad.

Do you guys ever have divers who do both......hunt for a meg or two and shoot fish? Or is it like having a camera, you're either shooting pictures or fish, don't bring both thing?

These divers are fanatical about finding the Megs, as I am about getting a 30lb Hog, that they don't want to concentrate on anything else, but finding a tooth bigger than anyone else has(our current record is 6 1/2 inches+). My mates do shoot during the surface interval for the charter and do OK. I don't have a problem with the charter shooting also, it's up to them.

Thanks Tom.......I've always wanted to find one of those 5-inch megs so I can hang it around my neck :D

Take a couple of days off when I have some openings on weekday trips and you'll get enough 5 inchers to wear a different one every day of the week.

It's been another 2 weeks of bad weather here and I've been down with the flu but have still managed to get a few meg trips out between the cold fronts. Last trip was Fri the 22nd with 2-3ft seas and about 40ft vis. Water is still cold though at 61deg. Mate did get these 2 fish, ARS went right at 15lbs and the Hog at little over 14. I sure hope the cold fronts lighten up soon.

Tom,
Glad to hear you are feeling better. You sounded terrible on the phone last week. Waiting for that 65 degree water, which will hopefully bring the fish in. We are set on go as soon as you say the word!

Tom, thanks for postin the water conditions. We're already hoping all this crazy weather wont interfear w/ our season opener w/ Spearit. Brian from Sugarloaf Key finished & shipped me the new walnut custom freehaft speargun for the trip. Wade

I have never hunted for teeth in the ocean, only in the rivers. Is it much different. Do the teeth all clump together in beds like they do in the rivers. Are there concentrations of teeth in different area, say for instance, no big teeth inward of 25 miles, etc. How does this work?

Capt Tom:
Do you have any seats on your boat for the rest of the year? Your website might be more effective if you listed who chartered the boat so individuals could call and check for random seats. I tried to book your boat but was pointed to the website that indicates your booked for the rest of the year? May the winds always blow from the west in the beautiful carolinas!

I'm starting to list weekday bookings that have openings, but the weekends through the beginning of Nov are all taken. The groups already have the boat full with standbys so I don't list who has the charter.

Okay, I will try to break away during the week with a couple of my customers. Are you planning to attend the SBO this year? I am already booked for another trip that weekend out of your town, darn soccer tournament made it hard to find rooms. Will hook up soon enough.
Later,
Brian

Oh yes Brian we'll be there. If you haven't gotten a place yet, the house is open since I won't have a charter group here that weekend. If you're doing Sat with A. S., we might see you out there(though I don't think they'll be going as far as I plan to). We'll scout Fri. shoot Sat then drive to Fl Sat night weather permitting.

Tom, I'm the one you brought the 52 SS to in Morehead. Keep me in mind also if you get a cancellation. Lots of times I can take off work at a days notice to dive during the week. Thanks for the hookup on the 52. I'm dyin to get a chance to use it. I may try to go Sat. weather permitting.
