Captain’s Meeting Announced – Now a Thursday!!
The Spearboard Open Tournament and Spearfishing Expo will have it’s 2005 Captain’s Meeting this year on Thursday, May 19, at Edgwaters Restaurant and Lounge, at 5245 Limestone Drive, Port Richey, FL 34668 (727) 816-1041.
The tournament committee talked at length about the idea of moving it to a Thursday. To a man, everyone liked the idea. We also asked others outside the committee what they thought, and the feedback was positive. Many people said that they would now be able to attend the Captain’s Meeting.
There are many positives in having the Captain’s Meeting on a Thursday, including:
1. It will give participants an extra day of preparation. We would like an increase in attendance at the Captain’s Meeting. When the meeting is held the night before the tournament, many people are busy preparing the boat for the trip, etc. By having it on a Thursday evening, it will not interfere with preparation for Saturday’s trip, and give participants all day Friday to get their boat ready or make other preparation.
2. The venue for a Captain’s Meeting (a restaurant) is likely to be less busy on a Thursday than a Friday, making for more parking and better service.
3. Having the Captain’s Meeting on a Thursday will help me quite a bit, by allowing an extra day of preparation to prepare for the Sunday weigh-in and expo.
Having the meeting on a Thursday will not change the rules in any way. The rules have not been modified for this!
For those of you who attended last year’s Captain’s Meeting at Sandals Restaurant in Port Richey, be advised that this is the same restaurant. There has been a name change, but it is the same place. This is a perfect riverfront venue, with a large covered patio area, stage, and plenty of space. The meals are reasonable (ScottZeagle and myself had lunch there yesterday).
To get there, take U.S. 19 to Port Richey. Those of you who have launched by Hooters Restaurant in Port Richey know to take the first street north of the Port Richey bridge, traveling west. For Edgewaters, take the first street SOUTH of the river (it is on the west side of the river). Go to the stop sign and make a right, and you’ll see it a short way down the road.
PLEASE make every effort to attend the Captain’s Meeting this year. We will have some door prizes and a Captain’s Meeting raffle.
