Hey folks,

I'll be in Newport for a dive tonight if anyone is interested in joining me. Shoot me a PM and I'll get back to you.

What are you gonna find at night up there?

Tyson - good to see you on here again! Can't wait to hear Casey's report.

Thanks Max. I've been itching to come up and will quite possibly do so in July. I'm curious to see if Casey has discovered a nighttime halibut hole.

No hali, just a ton of rockfish.

Omg I can't wait till I get this cast off my hand so I can dive again. A night dive sounds fun! And I'll second what Max said, pictures!

Sorry gents, no photos from the night dive. I ended up diving alone since no one on here was game to hit the water after dark. Night dives are awesome and safe when done properly. There is a ton of life out after dark, game species or not.

Here are some photos from the next day when I broke in the new kayak. We both shot limits of rocks and I picked up 7 crab. On that note, it was Oliver's first ever limit! I've been teaching him the ways of the PNW freediving killer for weeks, and it finally all came together.

Lots of fish mike. Big and small. They are practically like zombies at night.

Casey - what kind of kayak is that? How do you like it?

It's a wilderness systems tarpon 120. So far i absolutely love it. It cuts through oncoming current without much effort, doesn't catch the wind, and is very stable. I had to take off one of the paddle retention clips to facilitate sliding in and out of the water without rolling the boat but otherwise it's great. I even used it with rod and reel and had a great time. Philip has the same boat and recommended it to me last year at the dive comp.

Wilderness Systems makes a good product. I have a Ride 115 that works great. But I primarily use it as a bowfishing platform :)

When I'm able I need to go on one of these night dives.

According to the pictures, one of you was in a canoe? That's pretty sweet.

Night dives are fun Mike. Pick a spot you're comfortable diving and go for it. I really like Newport for that purpose.

Jarom, Oliver doesn't have a boat and I only have one Kayak so he had to use my canoe. It wasn't too bad, he just got in and out on the rocks.
