Well its not diving but I thought I put this up for the fishin' divers. Capt Tom is a good friend of mine and has been my dive buddy on several occasions......................................... ...
Several weeks ago Capt. Tom Markham of the charterboat "Simply Hooked" out of Hamlins Landing was involved in a tragic car accident which broke his neck and caused massive head injuries. His full recovery and return to the water, while looking long and difficult is likely, according to his doctors. To help him and his family get through this period, a group of charter captains organized by Capt Dave Mistretta have donated full day fishing trips to be given away as raffle prizes. Over the next month you can buy tickets for 5 bucks apiece at a variey of places, such as all the Johns Pass and Old Salts kingfish tournament captains meetings, Dogfish tackle (and their booth at the meetings), and a lot of others to be announced. The final drawing(s) will be at the Old Salts King of the Beach captains meeting in early May. You will not have to present to win. A total of twelve full day charters will be given out to the winning ticket holders. The boats participating are: JAWS TOO-CAPT DAVE MISTRETTA, PISTOLERO-CAPT ERIC MERCANDANTE, MYSELF, KO KID-CAPT KEN ORTHENER, SKINNYWATER FISHING-CAPT CRAIG LAHR, SALT SHAKER-CAPT DOUG JOHNSTON, ISLAND WAY-CAPT CHRIS SAHR, T KAT-CAPT TOM KANE, CONTAGIOUS-CAPT MIKE IRWIN, FISH TAXI-CAPT RYAN WAGNER, TEAM GATORS-CAPT LARRY HOFFMAN. Most of these trips have of value of $700 dollars or more. For 5 bucks you can help out a fellow fisherman and you have a good shot at winning one or more full day fishing trips with some of the top offshore and inshore guides around. I will post the new locations for getting tickets as they come on. Im hoping to have on here in the north county area soon.

Ed,

Great idea. If you want to set up a contribution jar at the spearboard open weigh-in, you'd be welcome to (or, you could sell your raffle tickets from there, as well). You'll probably be in Boca by then, but if you know anyone who wants to do this, contact me.

Thanks guys. The official drawing will be at the Capts meeting of the Old Salts "King of the Beach" kingfish tourney which I beleive is on May 3rd. A mailbox and bank account has been set up in the name WAYNE THOMAS MARKHAM FUND, PO box 1052 Indian Rocks Beach, Fl 33785. You can get as many tickets as you want by mail or Im considereing a location up this way or a "meeting" at the Winghouse or Hooters. Theres twelve trips up for grabs and possibly some other stuff so Im thinking the odds of winning are real good. Hell, you could presuamably win a couple of charters for ten bucks.

Freedive Tournament next week, I'll help you push them.

I think I know Tom Markum. Is he a young, dark haired guy? If he is the same Tom Markum I know, he is a really great guy. If he's not, he could still be a great guy. I sure hope he comes out of this OK.
