Everytime I go diving with my buddies, they tell me I'm using the wrong type of gun. I use JBL 450 Magnums and have done so from my begining of time. I told Guy, look who shot the biggest fish of the tourney, JBL. Stan Smith 1st 2nd and 3rd place sharks in the record books for the Louisiana State records, JBL. Terry "Papa Smurf" Migaud, Sate record shark 407lbs. JBL, hell I have one in the top ten,,, 354 shark, JBL. State record Stingray, Me, JBL 277lbs. Not to mention the Jewfishes, the tarpon, big warsaws, and A/J's.....
But now I'm using the wrong gun,,,,,,I DON"T THINK SO!!!!!!
Guy, I wasn't too drunk to remember that I want to help you design a Blue Water Gun, and I'll do my best to make it famous.....
I'm already developing ideas,,,,,
The rest of yall, keep using the other sh!t, I'm getting older and need every advantage I can get.

Thanks for the encouraging words. I've been doing a bit of research regarding just how many JBL spearguns there are out there...guess what more fish are grilled courtesy of JBL than all other guns combined. After extensive travels in the beautiful state of Florida I realize shooters are hungry...no starving for something new from us other than a point that has 3" wings instead of 2 3/4" which the prior owners viewed as a major development. So here's the deal, I want input, I don't want ya bitchin at shock line diameter, wishbone thickness or any other "No Duh" stuff. I want hard core killers like Chad at Jim's dive shop in St. Pete or the esteemed Mr. Rossignol telling me what they want. I know you're out there. The next generation of JBL guns are going to be designed for predators by predators, no hype or "Bovis Stercus" it's latin, look it up. As with all our guns, the focus is speed and accuracy everything else is-- what was that latin phrase again....That's it, I need to get back to the drawing board, it's going to be a busy DEMA show and I have a lot of new designs to test out. I'd like to hear your stories and see the pics, who knows, you may be on the cover of the new JBL International catalog.

Guy, Good to hear your going to be at the DEMA show! We got a spot In the Florida Keys and Key West booth 5023, I wish we had your booth! Since we got in so late we are on the empty side of the convention center but maybe it will fill up and our section will get some flow.
The only JBL gun I've used is the 450 Magnum which seemed fine until I was introduced to the Ultimate Brand guns which were better (and more costly)....Suggestions to improve the 450:
Replace the braided line with a monofilament line, make a separate & replaceable independent shock cord with dynema, and include some type of clip to allow the diver to easily detach the line from the gun while underwater. Why not copy exactly what Rob Allen does? The current configuration results in a tangled mess if the shaft goes completely through the fish.
Also, we generally made our own bands and when loaded up with 3 strong bands the gun would very visibly bow. The trigger never failed. but it sure seems like the tubing could be made stronger. I've never seen any other wood or metal gun bend under strain like the 450.

You would need to be "regionally specific" with the rigging. Mono wouldn't last 5, hell 2 seconds under the rigs. Cable is the only way to go in LA. Maybe the length of the 450 is the cause for the bow so yeah you can plus up that barrel....I've never had a problem with the Gulf Mag, and I've put some crazy short, stiff bands on it. Hool em up Louis......Hey Guy, send Louis some "X" models; you have a perfect test pilot ready and willing I'm sure.

Yeah your right, if I can't break it nobody can.
Guy, in my opinion I think the bands are strong enough on the 450. I've put stronger bands on and the gun did bend, but there was no benefit. Actually it was more of a pain in the ass to deal with. I like the bands to feel spongy, 30" on a 450. Penetration is acheived by the sharpness of your tip and the weight of your shaft. I've already bent or broke the stock barrels on my guns, and I'm using tubing which is even lighter than stock. I don't have any problems with bending that bothers me. I'd hate to have to deal with a heavier gun. At the rigs, we use a riding rig. The gun is seperated from the shaft after the shot. Last this I need is a gun that sinks faster on a 400 ft oil rig.
I'm definately goin to use the cable wishbones from now on as I broke about 6 bands this weekend during the HDR.
I also broke 2 tips, had fish rip the lips off the wingless detachable, and wore out one X trigger this weekend.
I'm thinking about rigging a 60" gun to dive the deep rigs with, not that I need more power, I want more range. I'll probably have to power that "Bad Boy" with 32" bands.
