Post On Deeper Blue And Ask For "so. Cal. Fisher"
He Is Moving Or Has Moved To Brazil. I Think He Is Married To A Brazillian. But I Think He Is A Freediver, As Are Most On Deeper Blue. Good Luck A Post A Report When You Get Back.

I'm married to a brazilian and have dived in Brazil, northeast coast (Porto de Galinhas, Recife...).
Local fisherman do hunt, but there are a lot of environmentalists.... got to be careful who you ask about spearfishing...
I know by law you can't use scuba to hunt anything, but you can free diving.
If you have the chance to go to the northeast coast, where it's not as populated, people are friendly and are usually glad to take you out in exchange for spear tips, bands, old fins, and anything they have hard time having access to.
I can get my wife to find some contacts for you. PM me if you are still interested.

SoCal Fisher here. I'm planning to move the Brasil at the end if this year with my Brasillian wife. I've never spearfished there but I've done alot of freediving. The water where I was at was really clear and had ALOT of fish, so I can't wait for the move. I'm not clear on the rules but I visited a web-site in Florianopolis called floripasub.com and that is based close to where I'll be living. Spearfishing in Brasil seems to be a rich mans sport, but I hope to hook-up with someone once I'm there.
