Had a good trip. Arrived on the ledge for an evening dive in 180'. Shot a nice gag around 40#'s. It was a hell of a struggle and I lost my Spearfishing Specialties 54 freeshafter in the fight. Trolled till dark with NO BITES I mean not a single knockdown. Pushed out to 1000' and went 0 for 3 on swords. moved back into the ledge and mugged the beeliners and scamps. Trolling the next morning resulted in 4 mahi then we headed back in for another dive in 180. Shot a couple hogs and gags but couldn't seal the deal on a big true black grouper that had to be every bit of 80 pounds. It looked like a friggin blimp down there. Came in to 100' and caught some lobster including a 11# male bug.
Also went 4 out of 8 rod and reel cobia.

Nice fish guys......how many miles do you guys have to run to reach a grand? Is that a yellowmouth in the first picture that Slay Ride is holdin'?

Rob tell everyone about the nice lobster tail we were about to have for DINNER that you threw overboard. Guess you forgot about that one huh???
Cobia, Mahi, Hogsnapper, Gag, Black and Scamp Grouper, beeliners and Red Porgies. We're gonna be eating well for a while!
Bryan that was a scamp. I thought it was a yellowmouth at first. That's a pretty big scamp. I shot two about that size.
Fun trip.

All very nice! That's a huge bug! I see Rob got another big gag. Too bad about the carbo and the swords. Great selection of seafood. Can't wait to get back up there next month.

Saw two cobia and two African Pompano on deco. Not a good idea to shoot those on deco after a 180 foot dive. But they were all very cool to see.

John, i have to admit something here. After all the crap i gave you about the snare you carried i finally broke down and tried it. Works like a champ. Very odd how a lobster wont budge while you snake that loop down to the knuckle.

Rob: Does that snare of yours lock down when you tighten it? If not, I'll bring you one of my old ones when I come up next time. The old ones work fine on the antennae; they just don't open up wide enough to use on the tails anymore. Glad that I converted you. I still remember you guys laughing at me the first time that I brought mine. :D I can't catch lobsters with my hands worth a damn unless they are really cornered.
Wish that I could claim it as my own, but Dan Addison taught me that trick last year. Got to give credit where credit is due. :)

I catch them fine with my hands. Just always passed over the ones hard to get to to move down the ledge and find an easier one. The snare lets me catch the hard to get to bugs. I wish someone made bug tamer bags with a bigger opening.

So you're going to give a guy who already has a snare one, but forget about the hard working captain who takes you out on his boat for massive fish kills and trophies on the wall????? Where's the love man?????? whaaaa......
Seriously, hook me up with something you think would be appropriate for me. As you're just teaching me, I'll need some equipment assistance.

Forgot about you? I guess that it didn't take you long to forget about that new helium dive computer that arrived last week. :D Besides, I didn't think that you would lower yourself to using a snare. OK, I'll give it to you and you can let Rob borrow it sometimes. Better yet, I'll bring one for each of you so that you don't have to fight. :D

damn nice work. The leg meat alone on that lobster would out weight most that I have caught!

Hey Kite,
I wonder if they are allowed to use a mop to catch bugs up there?? Seems like it's pretty much anything goes to me..... there's nothin' better to catch bugs with than a fuzzy cotton mop.

Just shove it in his hole and he gets tangled up????????
I've heard of billfish lures like that. No hooks. But lobster??? Oh man tell me more.

Exactly. And it's specifically stated in the FL regs that we can't entangle them. You guys seem to have a lot less regs for bugs than we do. It's much like velcro ;)

How hard to untangle them after you get one out of his hole?

Some people "shave" them off the mop with a knife. Others twist and turn them until they come loose. It is very effective with the right mop. :)
